Question How about using hypnosis to plant suggestions to become lucid??

I made another thread directly on using hypnosis for LD - I will ask a mod to merge it with this poll - but I wanted to get a picture, how many of us have personal experience with it.
And to read the stories around it.
To see, on whom "it worked", find out, who can do it herself ..
I guess, somebody who can hypnotize others, can also hypnotize herself, so I threw them together - correct me, if I'm wrong..

As I said next door - I would love to learn hypnotizing - myself and others.
It's a plan for the future to go and learn it properly at a real life academy - not soon, but I will do it.
Maybe up to then experiment with self-hypnosis - I will see.

I am very fascinated by the phenomenon - I'm not up to speed about the scientific activities on the topic at the moment - but the department of neurology in Berlin Charité has been at it intensely around 10 years ago - I came to talk to one of the researchers back then, but didn't follow it up.
That's next door to where they also did part of the LD-research with MRI etc. by the way.

My only personal experience is having been hypnotized through the TV.
Yepp - that was actually a talent show - and this experiment was the culmination of what he did on stage.
I've only been to such shows live as a kid, and to my immense frustration wasn't allowed to take part.
So I thought - lets see - and it worked.
Not only what the objective was - namely that you couldn't take apart your fingers for a while, after having entangled them - but this sense of calm and peace and well-being he also implanted - it staid with me all day.
Since I had a lot of trouble on my mind that day and a rather nasty mood - it was a really obvious effect. Lovely.

      Looking forward to your stories!

Not much help, but I'll try...I have only tried something I imagined to be like self-hypnosis in order to get to sleep when having the occasional insomnia but I came across these posts:

      Linkzelda created this guide: http://www.dreamviews.com/induction-...ripts-use.html

dutchraptor mentioned self-hypnosis briefly here: http://www.dreamviews.com/attaining-...ml#post1987466

I also found a website that has a lot of things for sale but details a procedure to use self-hypnosis for lucid dreaming in a free section when I did a google search of: hypnosis lucid dreaming.

      I think it may help.

Last night I had my third DILD and during the day something strange happened and I think the two things are correlated. Basically I was meditating and I was very still, but at the same time a little drowsy (this has already happened to me though). Anyway, at some point I fell asleep and woke up immediately after but I felt like a rush of energy run into my body. I kept meditating and after a while I started having hypnagogic hallucinations..I saw like a cascade and heard some strange noises. I guess I could try a WILD at that point, but I actually decided to repeat my LD mantras and I actually felt them sinking in more than previosly.

Long story short, I definetely think that meditation, visualization and (self) hypnosis are really cool tools to get better at lucid dreams.

Great - thanks for the links fogelbise!
I was more thinking about going to a hypnotist with a good reputation and have it done from externally.
It sure is possible to do self-hypnosis - and it is surely also possible to learn how to self-hypnotise from reading tutorials - but how do I know, I really learned it properly?
Would love - and actually plan on - learning to do both - hypnosis and self-hypnosis at a real-life academy - but that's for the future - not bound to happen soon.

I wonder, how many people on here have actually been hypnotized not for show-purposes only, but for purposes of therapy or performance enhancement of some sort.

I've been thinking about giving this a try out of curiosity, your thread just reminded me of it. I might just have to go do it now. Sounds like a fun thing to learn too!

Interesting idea. How would you construct such a suggestion?

      That is a good question.
You wouldn't want to be over-intrusive - not transforming every singly dream into a lucid one.
Maybe attach it to the occurrence of a dreamsign first - like - every time you are dreaming of xyz - you do a RC and realize, that you are dreaming.
See how well that works and go from there.

I made a poll too, about experience with hypnosis in general - and I wanted this thread merged onto it - will ask again.

I've never undergone hypnosis, but I think I would let a pro do it to help me get lucid, sure! Why not?

I know Dreamviews user McWillis has done very many experiments regarding achieving lucidity - using hypnosis is among them. Definitely someone to contact.

My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

I'm glad you got the poll merged with the other thread. I was getting all confused, and the discussion was even bleeding into Voldmer's thread about finding lost things.

Right... yesterday I went hunting for self-hypnosis scripts in order to test this idea, and wouldn't you know it? The first one I stumbled upon included scripts for dream recall and lucid dreaming, and I hadn't even put those in as search terms! Coincidence, synchronicity or just dumb luck, I decided to take it for a spin. I read the induction script aloud to myself, then the dream recall and lucid dreaming scripts back-to-back, and finally the wake-up script. I suppose I could have left out the final one, but I had to pick up some laundry before going back to bed.

I got back and went back to sleep, and when I woke up later in the morning, I immediately remembered 4 dreams and a failed WILD attempt. That's a lot for a 3-hour WBTB!

They had lots of detail too: Great NLD recall and a botched WILD after self-hypnosis script - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

So I will re-state the question I posed in my journal:

I guess we won't know until I try it a few times more, but tonight was definitely a win! I felt elated when I remembered all of these - not quite the post-lucid giddiness, but still a very good feeling.

      Yupp! Whatever makes us fly!
Unfortunately, what comes to my mind now, is a study, which Zoth brought along somewhere else, on the effectiveness of different induction methods - and posthypnotic suggestion was among them - and didn't seem to bring much.
But upon reading further into the actual publication - like so many LD studies unfortunately/fortunately they didn't do that research properly and not many people, if I remember this correctly here.
So no need to give up on it just yet.
I would definitively go to a professional, too, since I know nobody privately - not that it doesn't work, and it's her fault!

      Heey - great!!

It sure could be the positive expectation - and if it was just that - happy for you!
But please do keep us posted, how this develops further on.
Wishing you a fantastic lucid from it and keeping up that great recall!
Also thanks for linking up Voldmer's thread with all the overspill.

      Soo - found this thread.
Took me 3 months after opening it, but now I have some experience!
First of all - huuuge thank you again Sibyline for your link - and to FORBES ROBBINS BLAIR for making parts of his book INSTANT SELF HYPNOSIS - HOW TO HYPNOTISE YOURSELF WITH YOUR EYES WIDE OPEN available in the net!
I did four sessions and of course I can't be completely sure about it - I made a mistake with recommending a high dose of Melatonin before, and it proved to be non-feasible in the end - but that was only one exceptional night ..

Buut - now I am quite euphoric again - I really think hypnosis "did wonders" for my lucidity - and my anecdotal evidence is nice this time!
So I converted the relevant scripts into text format for easy printing and adding your own stuff - which I hope is okay.
For those not being aware - you read it to yourself aloud!
      Anyway - here goes:

Spoiler for LDing and recall scripts:

I should get at this more systematically - but what I can say, is that with the first three sessions - I had twice one mini-LD associated (in the following/2/3 nights somewhere), and once it were two. Twice I did something else as well - RCs, WBTB, bit of MILD on the same day as the session. Except the very latest LDs, the few I had were only mini for a bit more than a couple of months, much to my dismay.
Then two weeks no daytime practice at all and no lucidity at all, too.

Then the 4th repetition on the 14.05.14 - with a bit of daytime/WBTB on the same day = once, and 10 days ago:
Got lucid on the 15th, 16th, 18th, 20th and last night. Two of them were mini - two of them were proper count-worthy longer ones, and last night I decided to go on non-lucidly - I can be such an idiot when I sleep ..

      5 Times in 9 days!!

And I botched two of the in between nights on my own account by going to bed after 3:00 pm, bit drunk, too. redface.gif

I would be really happy, if you interested people tried that out as well, and told us about if and how it works for you!

      gimmesmiley.gif

It's something novel and as such fun, and it doesn't take a lot of time or effort - unfortunately it gets boring, but it's worth it, I believe, and worth to do it several times! Maybe people are hypnotizable to a different degree and I'm an exception - maybe it's going to loose it's effectiveness further on - but maybe not!!

Further reports will follow - if I don't hit LDinggoddessness before - I plan on 10 sessions in all.

If you want to check the count and dates - look in my DILD workbook - part is not in my DJ - even that I didn't do properly ..rolleyes.gif

Found this thread when looking for an answer to the same question as the one in the original post. I see that OP StephL is still active on DV. What happened after this StephL, did you abandon (self)hyposis, and if so, why?
