my first lucid dream was about three months ago and i had already known about it but i wasnt really doing reality checks.but about two weeks ago i got interested in lucid dreams very much and i began doing reality checks but they dont seem to be working at all.i do them quite often but still no results. when will they work?yesterday i had so big chance of remembering to reality check but i still didn't remember it. please help
In the beginning I used to do 3-4 RC's per time and I either didn't remember to do them in my dreams or I did them but they yielded a waking reality result. As soon as I understood that RC's don't make me lucid, I started having more LD's. Sooo...are you dreaming right now?

You were probably doing the reality checks mindlessly without questioning your reality. Without awareness, you can't get lucid. Simple as that. When doing reality checks, question your surroundings (and perhaps memory too, since memory is messed up in dreams). Where were you five minutes ago? Is anything out of place? Can you levitate an object? Just be aware and eventually the awareness will come into your dreams, getting you lucid.

the purpose of reality check is to confirm that your are indeed lucid dreaming and hence is a stage after you realize that you might be dreaming. it does not make you lucid dream it only confirms it. the correct way of using them is when ever you get into a dreamlike situation where you question is this possible? can this happen?, or something weird or funny happens ( or whatever is dreamlike to you) then you do a reality check. thus awareness is the key, you have to built your awareness to such point that it stops and questions your reality whenever anything out of norm happens.
RCs serve to form a habit that will hopefully transition into the dream world, you perform it, and then you're lucid. The others are right where you can't just mindlessly perform them. You have to feel some importance from doing them. But they're only one factor in being able to have a lucid dream. If you want to learn more information beyond that, this site is full of it.
RCs are really to bring the idea of dreams into your waking state enough so that you will think of dreams during your dreams. If you are not aware enough in your dreams you won't think of anything. That is why we always recommend some way of increasing dream recall, the most common being dream journaling, but that is really secondary to sleep schedule.
RCs are normally done pretty well as long as you are thinking about dreams during it. If you don't get really aware dreams, you won't be able to reason that it is a dream. If dreaming doesn't cross your mind very often in waking life, it will come up less often in dreams. You need to work on both! :) Just think about dreams during an RC.
Also. two weeks is a very short amount of time. You should set a goal that you will try to LD every night for a year. Trying to get 90% of your nights with good sleep and each night (no matter if it is good sleep or not) you are trying to LD, going to sleep with the intention of sleeping. WBTB is always good, even if it is only for a minute or so, especially if you do it multiple times a night.

First off:everyone attains lucidity differently. The majority of my lucid dreams are when i travel and do weak MILD mantras.
Usually RC's won't work on their own. I know they don't for me, even i I put thought into them. Try using RC's in combination with other techniques like Mantras or WBTB, or meditation.
It took me about a week of dedicated reality checking (constantly working with awareness, et cetera) before they actually brought any use to me in a dream. I suggest using WBTB with them. WBTB is really useful for pretty much every method. Also, if you can muster the strength (it is extremely difficult) you can do ADA. But it is worth it, because even if you start it and do it for just one day, you will have a lucid dream the following night if you use WBTB too. It is highly effective. Good luck.
I am a big believer in RC'S and use them a lot to obtain lucidity. Some will argue that RC'S do not make one lucid, but I humbly disagree, at least in my case. I cant speak for others. Anyway, you must first figure out your dream signs. I never think to RC in my dreams unless some dream sign occurs, and it makes me think "gee, I should do an RC." Learn your most common dream signs, then internalize them in your mind so you will think to RC when they occur. LaBerge calls this prospective memory. RC'S and dream signs work together.
