bathrooms.
I know this will seem odd, but I realised recently why my most common dream sign is bathrooms. My first ever lucid dream happened when I was four or five, in the middle of a desert there was nothing except a public toilet building. I went in and walked to the corner- it was like a maze of waist height walls with urinals etc on them- and thought "what if mummies and zombies came in now? There's only one exit" and sure enough, in came mummies and zombies. I closed my eyes and thought "wake up, wake up, wake up" and so I did.
I've thought of that dream almost ever day for the past twelve years. That's why bathrooms are such a common dream sign right? Usually there's something sexual in these dreams, such as a thrill from walking around naked in massive bathrooms when nobody else is there, or having sex with someone there. (When I say massive I mean Hogwarts-style) this must be because, as a teenager, I tend to think about sex sometimes. Every few days. Every few hours. Every few minutes. You know.
I just thought this was worth putting up, even though I've probably been crucified mentally by everyone reading this.. And I need to stop forgetting to come back to this site!

I have the same phenomenon - I keep dreaming of having to use a toilet, and some strange stuff prevents the action from going it's normal trivial course.
For a while I did RCs every time I went irl - and that worked for getting my lucid twice actually - I just today have planned to take them up again.
What is worse - this happened three times in LDs - and one time I woke myself up because I thought it must be for real - just to find myself on the loo with nothing to do there - the urge held up in waking, even, till I was there.
Bit of an embarrassing topic - but if it helps somebody - I can LD-pee without endangering my bedding - that was what I resorted to the other two times, out of which in one instance - I lost lucidity giving in.
Seems to follow such a primal urge is dangerous for falling non-lucid - but I'll do it again, if I can't get rid of the urge once more - worked just fine once.
Well - best to see it as a dream-sign, which can be easily RCd on irl!
Good luck with toilet-detecting!
Oh yeah - there is a thread on here somewhere asking for people's dream-signs - and toilets are extremely common.
Nothing wrong with us!

It just keeps going and going and going! and i end up pissing all over a wall it seems. :) I dont think its about sex i think its something different from different things ive looked up it can mean your not happy or your trying to let go of a part of yourself / change something :)

So many people I know have this!!
I've never had it myself but I've heard it so many times i think it must be a bit of a classic dream sign.
I wonder why? I'd guess it's something to do with going for such a long time without taking a pee. Most of us wake up bursting for the loo so maybe it's as simple as that?

Well that's interesting to see I'm not alone! I just remembered I used to have a recurring nightmare when I was 4/5 and occasional for years after, where my mum or granddad got flushed down a toilet. I'd hear flushing and screaming and run into a bathroom to find that the person was gone. So really I have always had a thing with toilets and bathrooms- hell, last night I had a dream about the very thing... Followed by me jumping down a flat's walls to escape a policewoman who was following me everywhere! (As I am currently on bail) which was like my old Spiderman dreams, haha

I have these kinds of dreams only once in a while. A few non-lucids. I can recall only one lucid dream that involved a bathroom. I was trapped in a hotel bathroom, held hostage by kidnappers. So my curiosity was sufficiently piqued by this thread.
I'm not a strong believer in Freudian-style dream interpretation but I have a dream dictionary that I look things up in occasionally out of curiosity. It's an actual printed book and I think it's bit better written and more comprehensive than the crap (no pun intended) you find online. Often the definition in the book won't seem to apply to me, but it's a seed that gets me thinking of other ideas. Anyway, here's part of the entry I found: "Lavatories are places in which unwanted things are flushed away -- out of sight and largely out of mind, they suddenly become someone else's responsibility. Should the lavatory be blocked, however, it suggests that the discarded items may be coming back to haunt you." So that's interesting maybe.
Personally, my own thinking might go something like this. A bathroom and the act of using the toilet are usually very personal and private things. If you live with family or roommates, the bathroom and bed/sleep might be the only times you're ever alone. They are like little sanctuaries where you can do as you please. So some people might develop be an unconscious connection between bathrooms, privacy, and sleeping and dreaming. BUT, if it's a public bathroom, then now there's a conflict between public and private. If I'm wearing my Freud hat, those kinds of connections and conflicts are ripe for dream content and symbolism. That doesn't lead me to any particular interpretation, but maybe some of those ideas resonate with others.
