On AVERAGE how long does it take before your dream recall is good?
Simply based on my own experiences and those of friends I've helped with recall, a few days to a few weeks.
For me, I have better recall after just writing my dreams down one or 2 days in a row. My boyfriend has remembered perhaps 5 dreams in his entire life until he met me. I made him start a journal (which he never uses, he just tells them to me first thing in the morning then I write it down for him) and he can remember like 1 or 2 a week now. Other friends I've helped took around a week or so after they started a journal and committed to it. Even the ones with the worst recall.
Thanks OB :) I wouldn't say my DR is crap, but i do tend to forget some dreams entirely, even if i wake myself up during them. Is that being lucid though? I've always had the ability to take control for a split second to end them when i want.
Once I got in the habit of writing in the dream journal, it took me about a week to recall a dream everynight. So once you get used to it, it should not be to bad.
Before I started keeping a dream journal, I could recall maybe one dream every couple of days if I tried. While actually keeping one, my recall increased to 3 or more per night, depending on how often I wake up. I usually recall one dream every time I wake up, which can be quite often or only a couple of times a night. Even when I stopped keeping a DJ for a while, my recall remained at 1-2 dreams a night.
The learning curve should be pretty fast. Within two weeks, you'll probalby see significant improvement. The real key to dream recall is writing the dream down right after you wake up. Wait too long, and it will probably fade completely. The act of writing it down really helps, because one dream event or scene will lead you to remember another.
THe first day I has things to write in it, then immediately I was remebering 3+ dreams everynight.
Last night (Without journal) I remembered 3 dreams, and still now i can remember parts :D
If you don't write them down, how do you expect to note dreamsigns and such?
Well, exactly. I have my journal now, and marked up to record tonight's dreams.
