im aware that im dreaming but then go back into the dream

i have had lucid dreams before on accident. Last night i was dreaming about school and while in the dream i realized it was still summer, so i told myself this is a dream and i was aware and trying to change the dream but i couldn't. It's kind of confusing. This has happened in 2 other dreams before just like this one. It's like I'm aware and i tell myself multiple times that I'm dreaming and I'm trying to control the dream but then i forget about it and the dream continues. Anyone know whats going on?
