Hello :)
So, I wanna know why you start to lucid dream. Was it just for fun or for any other reason ?
In my case, it's for fun, but also to find inspiration for drawing, writing etc.
I started having spontaneous lucid dreams I put down to a supernatural experiences. I researched more and found out about lucid dreaming. It appeals because dreaming is something I'd done all my life and then I found out there was a different way to experience dreams.
I had a spontaneous LD once and was intrigued by it so I started to do some research and found lucid dreaming. Also I do it for fun, problem solving, inpariation, etc.
I would often have dreams about flying when I was a kid, and I remember asking myself pretty often if there was some way to get flying dreams more often;
I believe that's when my interest in dreams slowly but surely started to grow.
Then I heard something about "lucid dreaming" in 2008 and was amazed how much potential there seemed to be in them, and that's when I decided to start practicing it for real.
I am absolutely positive that I will have this interest in lucid dreaming for the rest of my life, I simply cannot imagine any reason for why I should ever want to stop practicing it.
Had a few spontaneous lucid dreams as well when I was a kid. For now I use them for entertainment purposes mostly.

It just kind of happened on its own
I heard about it from my brother who had found it on the internet maybe about 4 years ago? I'm not sure how long ago. My brother didn't pursue it but I was really interested in the fact that you could literally do ANTHING, so I researched it and started practicing, but I was too young to really have any motivation to practice for long periods of time. I have now been back for a while and have a lot of motivation and I have no plans to stop anytime soon. :)
"I liked it. I was good at it. And I was really........ Alive."
Okay, shut up Walter White, now for the real reason.
I was a natural from age ten. Of course, it's not like most people believe naturals are. Most people think naturals are masters from the start. That they can do anything and everything without effort.
I wanted to keep getting that experience of becoming lucid. It never mattered what I did in the lucid dream, it was always just the feeling of awareness inside a dream. That's all it was.
Then, it grew to something much more. It started to bleed into daily life. Eventually, I started taking up the practice of meditation, and it led to a better, happier life.
To sum it up, it started as something small, and grew to something that ended up defining me and my daily life.
Hedonism, plus esoteric knowledge curiousity, to say the least.. Yes, to boost creativity and inspiration as well. It has very, very many benefits.
I took up lucid dreaming to conquer a chronic anxiety problem that I had since childhood. I did not like the idea of going to see a therapist, nor did I feel like taking any kind of medication. I stumbled across this after hearing about lucid dreams in a psychology class in school. I joined dream views a day later and the rest is history :)
Needless to say, I have no anxiety problems anymore. I have managed to completely sefl-cure myself through the use of lucid dreaming.
Damn dude I feel you there. I have a ton of troubles with school due to my... well I don't even know what it is but it's not like I'm stupid or anything, I actually always scored really high on the standardized tests. I just can't get stuff done. It is like severe procrastination issues to the power of 10. Fortunately these are slowly going away as I grow up.
Just like sharpshoey, I heard about it about 4 years ago from my brother. While he didn't pursue it as avidly as I did (he claims he can do it naturally) I lacked motivation back then. All I knew was that thinking about it gave me this euphoric feeling and while that feeling has long since died inside of me, I still think that when I finally achieve my goal it will come back.
My initial reason is nothing I want to talk about in public. But it has become so much more. I just love the weird feeling of the dream world, it is just a bit "off" and I love that. And I really think the whole mechanics are soo cool, witnessing your body fall asleep has to be one of the most startling experiences ever. Watching the details of the Dreamworld just go completely overboard sometimes, flying of course and running fast as hell, willing things into existance... basically tricking your own doubts and limits.
So basically - entertainment and broadening of my horizon.
It happened on its own, by that I didn't know about lucid dreaming at the time nor was I attempting to. In that first dream where I realized I was dreaming, I tried to fly but failed. Once you get your first lucid you never go back. Now I get lucid dreams just for the fun of it. :D
