Creating the ideal lucid dreamer, a way to help us all...

Hi my fellow homo sapiens!


So inspired in part by mastermind's thread about greek philosophy(which can be found here: )

And by kingyoshi's "actor method"

I have come to the conclusion that the best ways one can learn lucid dreaming is learning and imitateing the masters!

now that may seem obvious, but you might wonder just WHAT is it that makes them so unique!

so I decided to direct this question at you guys! what do you think makes these lucid dreamers the masters that the are? what is the mindset\habits\attrabiutes\skills\traits\whatever you can think of that makes them what they are?


just to clarify, in my opinion the ideal lucid dreamer is the one who can have as many lucids as he\she desires and be able to do so, keep in mind this is only an ideal! i don't think there is someone who can have as many as he wants every single time(even the greatest LDers fail sometimes).


And yet I think that our community needs an ideal lucid dreamer so that we can all aspire to and learn from him and that way we will find ourselves closer and closer to that ideal, with the hope of it being a reality!


here are some things I just thought about, i will try to add more and you should do the same! :cheeky:


The ideal lucid dreamer needs:


Motivation, lots of it

the ability to calm his mind

good visualization skills

alot of practice

good quality practice(doing RC's correctly for example)

do multiple techniques(not all at once though!)

clear goals(like a very specific goal such as having one lucid a night)

work hard, yet not overwork yourself


I have a feeling this could really be helpful, so c'mon guys, let's create the ideal lucid dreamer!



tl;dr: just write what u think makes a great lucid dreamer...

Great idea! I'd like to add...

Lives a very mindful life and is fully present and aware in the waking world.

The ideal lucid dreamer knows that lucid dreaming isn't hard and that he shouldn't be obsessed with it throughout the day.

The ideal lucid dreamer should also realize the fact that he is capable of anything and that, if used right, his mind could greatly aid in yielding LDs nightly. He should also know that expectation, intention, persistence, and determination are all huge keys to success.
Those are just a few that have come to my mind at the moment.

Must develop the ability to concentrate (drowsiness in the morning is really bad for LDing).

The ideal lucid dreamer should lucid dream. /troll

The ideal lucid dreamer should know that lucidity is almost entirely mental. You wont get anywhere with a poor mindset.

Some people have said things that hinted at this, but I think it needs to be said outright.

The ideal lucid dreamer is always positive!!!
He knows for a fact that he will have LD!
He knows for a fact that he can control them!
And he knows for a fact that he will remember them!

Mindset is everything. One negative thought can unravel an entire days worth of effort!

The ideal lucid dreamer believes that lucid dreaming is a lifestyle and so, he/she involves LD in his/her life (RC, Awareness, etc)

The ideal LDer has a powerful grasp of the fundamentals (self-awareness, memory, expectation/intention), a vivid imagination, an open mind, lots of discipline for daytime work, and consistently knows that everything in his dream world is, in the end, him.... and some other things too, probably....

On topic, mindset really is everything. Staying positive even after poor results is the path to great results.

The ideal lucid dreamer knows that his expectations while dreaming are just around the corner........

The ideal lucid dreamer knows that everything is waking life is but the substance of dreams.....

The ideal lucid dreamer knows that being aware of ones emotions is just as important as being aware of the current environment.....

The ideal lucid dreamer pays attention to his/her dreams, whether lucid or not.

The ideal lucid dreamer has passion for dreams and gets thrilled and yet relaxed before going to bed.

I think observation is enough to master lucid dreaming. Paying attetion how waking life experiences affect dream and observing how we fall asleep. You gain understanding of how your mind works and trough that you learn yourself to induce lucid dreams.

Absolutely, but adding more pieces to the puzzle (DJ, reality checks, induction techniques, etc) bring even more lucids.

The ideal lucid dreamer isn't like me in that he doesn't depend on techniques but himself to get lucid dreams and he doesn't obsess about lucid dreaming and try so hard to get them...

You don't depend on techniques, techniques depend on you to work!

I'm tired of this idea that you aren't a "real" LDer if you don't have LD "naturally." What does that even mean? Let's see, it means that you did something without knowing what you were doing. So you did something in ignorance. Ignorance is not ideal, nor is it worth bragging about.

Those of us who are learning to LD, we are literally mastering our own minds. Now that is something to be proud of! :dancingcow:

^^ I agree with what you said, but you might have missed Mr' Shapes' point.

Though I personally have always been a bit skeptical about the existence of naturals, and their actual nature if they do exist (since LD'ing, or being awake while you are asleep, is almost unnatural by definition), and confused by the odd glorification of those who claim to be naturals on these forums, I don't think that post was talking about naturals.

No, I think Mr. Shapes was saying that it isn't the techniques that get you lucid, but your state of mind while doing them. The ideal lucid dreamer, then, has worked his mind into a place that allows self-awareness and memory to be accessible during a dream... and that work is by no means easy, quick, or done by fully ignoring LD'ing. Indeed, it is much harder and long-term oriented than the techniques themselves.

So someone who prepares himself to LD without concern (or, yes, obsession) for techniques is very likely doing far more actual, informed, work than someone just focusing on the latest "Do This and You'll Be Lucid Tonight!" technique. They are also working from far less ignorance than a dreamer who chooses techniques only. Because of this, I have to agree with Mr. Shapes and say that the ideal LD'er does indeed not depend on techniques, but simply uses them as needed to propel his carefully crafted sense of Self into his dreams.

Well, that's basically where I was going at first when I said that you don't work for techniques, they work for you. Then I just got off on a tangent soap box. Oops, sorry. I'm only on here at night, after work, and usually while drinking. Hehe
