Why didn't I become lucid? Dream signs everywhere?

Hey guys. So last night I had a strange dream, chocked-full of dream signs left and right and yet I still just carried on like it was normal. Also, this is the first dream I've had in probably years where I can remember the entire plot start-to-finish. I would love to understand why I only ever get bits and pieces out of dreams, because I feel like if I'm only experiencing dreams for like 2 minutes at a time and/or just remembering those bits and pieces and nothing else, I'm missing out on a lot of lucid experiences.

Anyway, it started off as a sexual encounter with my ex-gf, which should have set me off right away. We then teleported to my house (I even remember noting how strange it was that we just teleported, but I thought nothing of it) where there were police everywhere (another dreamsign). I won't bore you with the entire dream but eventually I come across a painting with a quote printed on it, and the quote was something along the lines of "You are only wise if you do in waking life, what you do when you are lucid dreaming" I read the words "LUCID DREAMING" in my dream for christ's sake! Still, no change in lucidity, and something crazier happens.

I get sucked into the painting, I'm flying around this beautiful and huge fantasy landscape and making shit explode with my hands/mind. Literally, this thought pops into my head: "Wow, this is exactly what I pictured an amazing lucid dream to be like!"

      ....Still don't become lucid.

I would love to know wtf is up with my brain! Haha, I'm sure others have had experiences like this but other than continuing to do RC's every day and similar DILD practices is there any way I can decrease my chances of this happening again?

First of all, it happens to regular lucid dreamers so don't sweat it. I think in my case I have to be intending to LD in my inner being...by that I mean if I am overly tired I may say to my self I want to LD but in reality in my heart I am not up to it... I really want to sleep. Similarly if I have worries or work on my mind I think my inner person wants to process that subconsciously and not work on LDs. Just my viewpoint here. Heck, I have had times where I told myself "hey, don't worry...this is only a dream" and STILL was not aware enough to actually do anything other than that fleeting thought!
