Subconscious learning and lucid dreaming.

I have been thinking very deeply about lucid dreaming and connecting it with what we take in subconsciously, and consciously, throughout our days.

Here at Dream Views, we are all very interested in lucid dreaming. And whether we practice it regularly, or are trying desperately to do so, we are all interested in lucid dreaming.

I must admit, before I start wittering on, that I have had a drink and am thinking in a very eccentric way. (While listening to my favourite music).

My thoughts on this are this;

-During a lucid dream we have full access to our subconscious and, conscious mind.
-I'm assuming we can use this information at any time during a lucid dream.
-The more we read, or watch on a subject, the more we will "take in" from that subject subconsciously.

What I am basically getting at is that, maybe all the people who post on Dream Views are not using lucid dreaming to it's, or their, full ability. I think there's more we could be doing to help ourselves in our own lives.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not criticizing anyone, I'm just trying to help people realize the potential they have unlocked with the ability to lucid dream.

I have only ever had 1(!) lucid dream and have been trying desperately ever since to have another.

My overall point is that maybe if we channeled our concentration into something we desperately want to do in life, we could then use lucid dreaming as a sort of "university" to help us on our way. This is my hope anyway. I am really interested in Football (Soccer) and want to be able to coach at a high level. Maybe if I watch more Football (Soccer) I can access this during lucid dreams to help me understand how to coach to a better standard.

Thank you for sharing this. But I think there's a flaw in that.

Anything that you don't know in a dream will, to a certain extent, not appear in it. I may not be understanding it right, but from what you're saying here:

You're saying that you could access more information on coaching from your dreams. But like I said earlier, everything you already knew will appear in a dream. If you've been watching football, you may dream about football and maybe ideas that you've thought of on the subject of coaching it may take form in the dream as well, but you've probably already consciously thought about those ideas when watching football. And if any of those ideas are worth keeping, you probably wouldn't forget about it. And in the case you do, sure, that's when lucid dreaming could be useful but unless you're a regular lucid dreamer it wouldn't be a very effective way. You could go over the information you already have or experiment with it, but with the odd way dreams work, I don't think you'd get good results with it. You're better off trying with it and even learning more in waking life. So, basically you wouldn't be able to access any more information about the subject than you already know, and experimenting on it isn't the best way to go around it.

I'm not saying this is bad at all. In fact, I'd actually really like to "befriend" my subconscious. And of course, lucid dreaming can definitely be used as a tool for self enhancement. Your subconscious can hold surprising things of your condition and, in general, yourself which can bring you closer to goals. You could even go to your subconscious mind for guidance.

The subconscious is always helping you as well. Recurring nightmares or dreams always have a message that is telling you to get over a situation or stop feeling negative emotions. If part of your mind is always trying to indirectly help you when you're in tough situations, I say, why can't it help you directly?

I was coming from the angle that during the day that our brains take in so much information (Consciously and subconsciously). The conscious is only what we're aware of. The subconscious, is obviously, not what we're aware of, but is what our brains take in and process. What I'm saying is that we can access the information that we don't consciously process.

Thanks for clearing that up. Never looked at it that way. I can see how you could utilize lucid dreaming in that way.

Indeed. One of the main theories of why we dream is that dreams are meant as a type of safe learning playground. I can't offer any sources right now, so you are free to take what I say with a grain of salt.

This is cited by that babies and younger children often sleep more and have more dreams than adults have. If I'm not mistaken, it's believed that REM sleep may have evolved around the same time that mammels came into being, as mammals seem to be the only family that experience REM. This may have to do with that mammals have to take more time to develop out in the world, and this offers an optimal time to learn without exterior dangers.

Some scientific experiments have been done to test this theory. If I'm not mistaken, I remember one where subjects were given some full-body skiing game. When given a chance to sleep after learning the game, the subjects often dreampt more about skiing and preformed better on the game after dreaming about it than when they were awake.

Undoubtedly, this means that lucid dreaming would offer an even more optimal learning center, as you can choose the topic you wish to learn about.

Now that being said about the unconscious, looking at this:

Now, I have studied in a dream and learned things in dreams, and it may not be a place that something new is, or even everything that you ever learned is, but it is definitely a great place for creativity. Let's look at this picture:

Now lets say that you dream about this couch. What does the back look like? Is it blue? Generally in dreams we think about the crazy things that are off. 99% of the things are actually 100% accurate. Even things that you don't know. The mind has an ability to auto finish things. I think that it does that with most everything that you see in dreams. Now, this auto fill is unique, because imagine that you are working on a puzzle and that one piece is missing, what is the dream gonna do with that puzzle piece? I have studied something for hours and couldn't find the answers, then I got the answer from a DC of a pastor I knew in a dream.

Lot's of people assume this, I don't know if we can get it at any time, but I think that there are definitely ways to get old information on there. Going through the puzzle thing. What if the last piece of the puzzle was something that you have seen/heard before? Wouldn't it fill it with something seen there in the past, even if it wasn't remembered. There of course is that 1% of things that it just fills with nonsense.

This kind of just continues the last point of things from what I have said. Maybe something that you heard the answer to before, but weren't listening. As a device for finding answers I would normally just point you to my friend "google" ;) In a day before the internet this would be an amazing ability, but now it is more of a personal learning or creativity thing rather than a learning thing, unless you can fall asleep at will during a test.

Maybe people that are on DV are not doing it to the fullest ability, but most are really struggling to keep up their own LDing abilities. I think that anyone that is at a higher level of LDing uses it to do things that they think are worthwhile. From experiments to "meta-physical experiences".

There have also been a few studies that show that people that practice something in a dream are faster at learning than those that don't. This was a small study and it seemed like there were too many variables to calculate if you ask me. :P but people practice sports down there as well.
