A simple tip for dream journalling motivation

      Hi guys !

For people like me one of the obstacles for writing on my DJ is the effort of moving my arms and my body to grab for it in the drowsiness and torpor of a night awakening

Ok, so the tip is to always leave your dream journal on your bed, instead of some table near your bed

      Simple but powerful

Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way

I've been using a recorder. Then after I have my coffee I sit on the computer and write everything down.

But yeah, that's also good advice!

I keep my recorder on a table right next to my bed within reaching distance. I would put it right on the bed, but I'm afraid I might end up knocking it off and losing it, and I'd rather not have that happen right when I need it!

My dreams being usually pretty detailed and long, I prefer to write them directly on the computer sitting near my bed. So I can read it the day after (my writing is terrible ) But the idea of a recorder is great too. I must try it tonight using my phone.

I can have some pretty long (ish) dreams too, that's why I prefer to use the recorder. I talk FAST. So I can get everything down right away.

My tip would also be a recorder. Most people have mobile phones (Cell phones for our American friends :-) ) which have a recording device. Record in the morning and write down after work.

I usually record the moment I open my eyes. Then I write it down after having my obligatory morning coffee

Well, I tried the recorder on my cell phone. I'm not sure it will be satisfactory for me. the oral commentary is not enough detailed for me, and I hate my voice I'll try again tonight. I also use a note book sometimes to avoid using the computer (too many temptations if I'm not sleepy enough

Yeah, I NEVER do my first draft on the computer. Usually my commentary isn't detailed enough, but as I listen to it, I can picture what was going on and remember other details.

One thing I found that helps me is to limit myself a little bit. It can be easy to wear yourself out when trying to constantly write down dreams half awake. sometimes quality can be a good substitute for quantity and I started to work my dream journal in this sort of manner. I don't feel like always writing my dreams down. in fact if i try too hard to always stay at it i can loose a little interest because it feels less like a hobby and more like a job. So i started writing down less frequently, but I try to write down as much detail as i can realistically think of. I had a long streak of no entries, partially because of school, partially i felt burnt out. Lately I have had dreams that are important to me at this time in my life and it gives me motivation and excitement to record them. I really like writing down my recent experiences with orcas, and it is fun to try to be as detailed as i can. that way i can relive the dream a bit and keep my dream journal skills sharp. these dreams inspire creativity. sorry for the wall of text, hope it helps!

You are definitely right. I must do that. Being in a "bored by writing my dream" mood these days, I shall try that Thank you for the tip

This all sounds so great! I have issues with writing down my dreams, because I'm usually a bit too lazy.
But when I do write down my dreams, my recall skyrockets and I can remember so many more details and more dreams as well. I usually just write down a few keywords and think about my dreams when I wake up to remember but I'm thinking about trying to use a program that will dictate what I'm saying. I like the idea of that so that I can record my dreams and still be semi-lazy so that I don't have to write them down later. I just need to find a good program that will accurately transcribe what I'm saying - that might be especially difficult since my sleepy voice is hard for even me to understand.

Good idea but not for me. First I sleep with a CPAP mask, second is that my wife is in bed with me and i certainly dont want her to hear most of my dream experiences. Fortunately I have very good recall so unless i have a long DEILD chain, I can enter my DJ iphone app anytime during the day. I only enter LDs and not regular dreams.

I think DJ is a "necessary evil" which we must go through in order to enhance our LD experience. I definitely don't enjoy doing it (or at least I don't enjoy waking up and using the recorder on my iPhone to record my dreams).
But I find that's a very quick way to jot down my dream without turning the lights on and waking my wife. I usually go to the bathroom and whisper into my phone. The next day (or when I get a chance) I will plug my headphones into my phone and type the dreams into my electronic DJ. This works well at work, as no one is able to see what I am typing
