As part of working with your daily routines associated with ADA, has anyone tried spending the day just asking "why"? Why is that tree over there? Why did that car just go by, etc.? It would seem that the question "why" alone could be instrumental in acquiring lucidity in dreams if the question transferred to the dream state. Any perspectives?
If it makes you stop taking things for granted, it's probably a great technique. But if you ask why and you are satisfied with a boring answer you won't get much out of it. It's more about the state of mind it creates than what particular thing you are doing. But in general, I'd think that if it makes you think about ordinary, "mundane" things, you will probably be likely to become lucid.
I never thought of this btw. I might start asking "why" now at random times, thanks :P
I agree. I didn't mean to imply that you would just throw the word around willy-nilly. When you say 'why' X, you delve for a moment into the object of your question. Why is it there? What's its purpose, etc.? It brings you fully into the moment. Thanks for the response.
Yes, if you spend some time actually thinking about it then it might be a great idea.
One question that could be very effective is "why am I here?", possibly followed by "how did I get here?".
If you are in the middle of a dream that didn't really have any logical beginning then these questions will not have any clear answers, and this would obviously be a major dreamsign.
I always ask myself, why am I here? why am I in this room? Why am I doing this? It reallyyy raises your awareness so if i'm doing anything out of the ordinary in my dream, I sort of just now, oh this must be a dream :)
Don't you get exhausted after a while when you keep asking those questions? Maybe it's just me, but, I actually start getting stressed when I am consistently asking and answering questions in my brain. How do you do it without getting tired? Does it just come with practice?Quote:

Exactly, Laurelindo. The only differences between a dream and physical reality is that change is not instantaneous and what we observe is persistent. I call waking reality a dream, and I make sure any reality checks that I do reflect the dream nature.
I don't constantly do this every second of my day, just whenever i'm doing a reality check or whenever I get the chance I just stop and deeply think about my surroundingsQuote:
