Lucid dreaming update
Hi everyone! I would have posted this on my previous thread, but I couldn't find it. Anyways, for the last few nights I have had very very short lucid dreams. Like, for 5 seconds each. I am even pretty calm and stuff, but I keep waking up!
Any tips?
And, is it odd that my lucid dreams don't exactly begin with reality checks all the time. Sometimes I just think, "I am dreaming." And that is that

Hey there Annabeau,
Likely you wake up quickly cause you're close to awakening anyways. When you get into a lucid dream, try to immerse yourself in dream sensations. Don't focus on being calm (that pulls your attention inwards towards yourself and away from the dream!). Focus on experiencing everything you see and her. Touch things, feel them. Smell then if you can, or even taste them. Look around, listen to the sounds. The more you can focus on the dream, the more it stabilize and ground itself, and hopefully pull you back deeper into sleep.
Hope that helps,

Ok, thanks! I'll be sure to try that tonight! Yes, some of the times I have been close to awakening, like at about 5:00 (I wake up at 5:30) and during naps. But, most of them have been at around 1 or 2ish in the morning.

Oh, and since I feel like it, I'll tell you the other things I've been doing.
I have a dream journal (duh)
I wrote "reality check" on my hand so whenever I look at it I do a reality check
I am reading books about lucid dreaming before I go to bed every night
Whenever I have free time (like on the bus to school) I just daydream about lucid dreaming and stuff
I also spend a lot of time on this site
I tried WBTB, but I don't hear the alarm usually

Hey there,
Sounds like you're making good progress then, and will have more so soon :)
On the topic of waking, I think our bodies sleep in cycles, starting with shallow sleep, going into deep sleep, and back to shallow sleep. It does this many times a night. During periods of shallow sleep, you may be very close to waking, or may even wake up for a second or two, before sinking back to sleep. You don't usually notice this (though it seems lucid dreamers after a while begin to wake up more consciously during these micro-awakenings, allowing them to recall more dreams and WBTB).
So you don't necessarily need to be close to morning to get moments in your sleep when you're close to awakening. Which is why grounding and stabilization of dreams are always useful tools.
Just my 2 cents,

Most of my lucid moments are also close to waking up, near the end of the dream. I have no idea why that is..
