Falling Asleep with MILD

I have recently started to use MILD and it works an absolute treat for me, Stephen LaBerge, if you read this, you´re the man!
The better description of the technique, or a welcome supplement so I found, was the way Robert Waggoner rephrases it, to be found in his book "Gateway to the Inner Self", which is a great and inspiring book.

Now, one concludes the MILD routine by, hopefully, falling asleep with the expectation to become lucid in one of the next dreams that night. I had struggled with falling asleep with any sort of focus,and might have a suggestion how to overcome being thrown back into waking consciousness.
On my way into sleep which I like to imagine as a somewhat forward motion, I decided to not go straight but simply turn off at some point, in my case to the right, as silly as it may sound, literally imagining a pathway that splits from the original direction.
Going forward would eventually take me to a point where I would realize that I am trying to hold a certain thought while at the same time wanting to fall asleep, which doesnt work. Leaving that path opened up something different for me, you might have to bend your mind a little bit to make this work.

Imagine a railway turntable with yourself on the platform and everything before your inner eye moving along normally, your intention to lucid dream soon, any interfering thoughts, lights whatever. With the help of the turntable as it were, can keep going in a straight line while your surroundings turn and thereby divert your direction. You know you have now changed paths.
I found it helps to not have to change direction actively, but have your surroundings change, which also gives you something to observe while it happens and thereby again distract you from the fact that you try to fall asleep with an intention.

Another thing I did was to have my inner vision ping-pong left and right so that it gives me something to do and somewhat dizzies me while ever approaching the border between waking consciousness and sleep.

Again, this is just my two cents, it might not work for you, maybe tomorrow i ll do something different myself, but at least it gives you something to try and fool around with.
