Finally became lucid after three weeks

This is posted mostly for those who are wondering how long it might take to achieve lucidity. I have had lucid dreams in the past without trying. For three weeks I have been keeping a DJ, reading a lot of posts on DV, I read the book "a field guide to lucid dreaming", practiced ADA, and have been watching a few talks given by Stephen Laberge on youtube. Throughout (8-15 times/day) the day I ponder whether or not I am dreaming, accompanied by quick reality checks of either attempting to fly, reading something twice, or pushing my fingers through my hand. Three weeks. Personally I thought that it would come faster than that.
I post this because I sometimes feel for those who are attempting to LD for the first time without knowing what it would feel like. Having myself become lucid in the past I knew what I was searching for, but I imagine that it must be tough trying to achieve something that is impossible for someone to describe to you. To those of you for whom this is the case I say, keep at it, it is worth it if you're looking for a great path to self discovery.
On a more personal note, this LD was a breakthrough for me as it was the first time where I intentionally became lucid. It was the first time where I consciously said to myself in a dream, " this doesn't seem right, maybe I'm dreaming" (spoiler, I was).

I'm pleased you have managed to become lucid. Good to read how you have done it.

I'm at around the six month mark with only one very low level moment of lucidity to date (apart from a spontaneous lucid dream in my teens). I have tried, given up, tried again, and now I'm on my third go and I remain determined to do it one day. You are lucky to have done it so fast.

You do have the benefit of knowing what you're looking for. The lucid dreams that you had in your past, was it also low-level lucid?

My only one proper lucid was over 20 years ago now! Can't remember too much but I do remember becoming aware that I was dreaming, looking around, then realising I could do anything I wanted and got excited at the thought of it and woke up. At the time I didn't realise what had happened and just sort of forgot about it until I read about lucid dreaming many years later.

Prior to attempting to LD, I have had a high level lucid about once a year on average. So like you I knew what to expect. I guess the main difference would be that my lucid were very clear and occasionally very long ( sometimes a couple of hours of dream time). I don't mean to sound full of myself when I say that I was surprised that it took that long. Maybe you're right and I am very fortunate.

Yeah, I agree the biggest advantage is that people that have naturally LD'd know what to look for/what it feels like.

Once you have that first one. The only thing that is holding you back is your beliefs. :)

dont stop. for some reason after i got my first lucid i slowed down and stopped trying (its a habit i have with things i like), and i dont believe it took me very long to achieve lucidity.. i just went to bed in a good mood. im trying again now, and i know i can do this. it helps to know the spark of awareness lucidity produces. good job on the lucid btw.
