Kalms sleep tablets
Hi guys,
Iv recently been having a lot of trouble sleeping due to anxiety/stress etc. so i got some Kalms Sleep tablets. Theyre a natural tablet containing valerian root, passion flower herb and hop strobiles and they are supposed to make people sleep better and be generally less anxious. A friend of mine told me that when she took them, they gave her heightened dream awareness so im just wondering if they might be able to help me with my lucid dreaming? Any body have any experiences with them?

I haven't tried that brand but I have had some of those ingredients. There's many possible explanations. I'll offer a few. It's hard to say what is really at play. But if it's safe and it has some effect, then I won't discourage experimenting with it. Fair chance though that the immediate effect on lucid dreaming may be short-lived. But even so, if the effect on your stress or sleep is an improvement, then that's a win. Now, some ideas:
1. Anything that improves your sleep can increase the amount of dreams, and perhaps those dreams will be more memorable, vivid, or lucid.
2. Anything that relieves stress may have an added benefit above and beyond just improving sleep. With less stress, your mind may be free to engage in more dream enjoyment and recall. Or your mood might improve, which might invoke more pleasant dreams that you are more willing to recall.
3. For someone with chronic insomnia, a temporary change caused by supplements may alter dreaming. This might wear off soon though as your rhythm returns to "normal." The point is that prolonged insomnia builds up sleep debt. When that debt is finally paid off, there are temporary alterations. There are some strategies to exploit this phenomenon repeatedly, like polyphasic sleep, but they're kinda extreme and impractical for the average person.
4. Many supplements alter REM periods by suppressing them early in sleep so that they become extended later. This also affects dreams. The effect may be repeatable or it might soon fade as you become tolerant to the chemical.
5. Many supplements alter other brain chemistry and that may influence awareness. Though then can also hinder sleep. Like caffeine, for example.
6. And of course, the placebo effect.
