After 20 years, I think I have reached a new step in lucid dreaming: Communication!

The older members here will remember me. I lucid dream several times a week, and have for about twenty years. I haven't been here in months, but I have been startled by an amazing accomplishment!

After six months of intense practicing I have made a breakthrough.
Moving your mouth while dreaming is thought to be impossible, but it is obviously not. People DO talk in their sleep, right?
My partner and I have opposite sleep schedules. She stands guard and listens for messages from me. We have done this for six months and I have attempted this several dozen times. I have had very confusing dreams this way and even experienced inception, where I had a dream within a dream... and yes Leonardo DeCaprio was there lol. However, last night I had success! After speaking paragraphs and paragraphs to my partner I noticed that in my dream it suddenly became very difficult to move my mouth and even harder to vocalize. It lasted for just a few seconds. It was during those few seconds that I was able to pass a message to her. She reported this morning and relayed the exact words I had spoken during that time: "Can you hear me? I am now walking through a field."

Wow, congrats, sounds like a serious achievement, but freaky at the same time haha. Im still working on my first LD, only just started, can you hear your partner in your dreams? Wonder if you can get to a stage of full conversation :s

Full conversations are certainly the goal. I feel it will finally help me to take actual physical notes during a lucid dream. Imagine being able to write a dream journal WHILE dreaming. I have always taken mental notes, but those can only go so far.

She did respond to me, but the problem is that I've been trying to do this regularly for six months, and in every dream I always DREAM that she is responding to me. Sometimes I'd dream that she was excitedly saying "Yes! I can hear you!" A couple of times I dreamed that I was able to open my eyes in my dream state, and get up. One time I dreamed that she told me to shut up. One time I actually dreamed that she responded by pressing her fingers in my eyes. So, I have began to discount and discredit any hint that she might actually be responding. Since I didn't know at the time that these two lines actually got out into the real world (all I knew was that it was suddenly really hard to speak) I did not take much notice to what she had to say. I just assumed it was part of the dream, as it has always been so far. I am not sure if I heard her or not, but this is a concern for me. If I can only pass messages one way it will still be a success, but having bi-directional feedback would be amazing.

Did your lucid-dream continue after speaking that message?

its the communication age, why have a partner stand guard when you could use a voice recorder

Yes, actually, but only for a few minutes longer. I was on hour 9 or 10 of an all-night lucid dream. I was able to confirm this with my partner who agreed that this happened a few minutes before I woke up, and the words match what I had spoken during that time period. I woke up pretty soon after this because I actually wondered if I had finally broken through to the outside world and was anxious to find out. It was a pleasant surprise to hear her speak the exact words that I had spoken in my dream.

Because she's already there anyway, and I am hoping to achieve two-way communication.

I really appreciate it. I don't take it lightly, as I've never heard of anyone accomplishing this either. I'm quite proud. lol

Did you try other things? Like move your hand or make eye sign like in Laberge's experiments? I wonder you are still dreaming or this is just a very strong visualisation...

Hello, that's amazing! A guy with your experience could try one experiment - if your hold your breath in a lucid dream, you're holding your breath in sleeping body as well. I have little evidence that breathing is not affected by dreaming breathing but need more guys to testify this :)

Most people can only remember a max of like 45 min of dream even if lucid and then only if they tell them self the earlier portion of the dream as they dream on. Also most can only reach 45+min of dream continuously without micro awakening or exceed 1+hr if they intentionally micro awaken and then DEILD. Those with great skill at this also seem to usually report a 3+ hr limit on maximum time before they simply can't continue accompanied by much dream memory loss despite continuous lucidity (even if using dream retelling techniques, in other words remote parts of the dream are mere summary and only because they were summarized many times within each extension).


My longest Lucids approach 15 minutes but only with void and void survival, I have never had a continuous lucid (with out void inside it) that approached more than 6-8 minutes.

So how are you able to maintain control if it is all one all night lucid like head wobble, stabilization, constant motion, spinning, refocusing or whatever? How much do you recall and how do you achieve this extent if more than 1hr recalled?

Also are your all night lucids broken by false awakening? If I could lucid for an hour I think I would rather have two separate 1/2 hr lucids to avoid this risk alone, as I know for certain I have lost and recalled lucids and so must have lost others completely, tho I suspect they were of the 5sec to 3min common variety.

One thing I would suggest you check is how long your lucids actually last. Does a time interval in the real world actually last the same in the lucid dream? I always suspected that there was various time dilation effects going on inside a dream, so that real elapsed time is probably shorter than it seems in the dream. You have the perfect way to test that.

This thread could, in years to come be looked back as a pivitol moment in lucid dreaming.

Someone should tell Daniel Love. In his book, "Are You Dreaming?", he wrote in the last chapter, "the future of lucid dreaming", in a section titled, "communication between dreamers", that he wants people to try this type of experiment(this is at least a variant form of what he was talking about). I'm sure he would be thrilled...

Could i please ask and dont think im.bieng nosey but what practises do you do in order to be so successful? I practise ADA and my recall is ok but im lucky if i get 1 a week....to be able to lucid dream that long sounds amazing...the best iv done is probably an hour....i know different practises work for different people....im starting mediation next and see if that helps me....my other question is....when u lucid dream is it from a regular dream like a DILD or do you use WILD? Thanx =)

I did not try anything else. My goal is to try to pass messages along. I don't want to simply tell my partner that I am lucid dreaming. I am trying to achieve the next level beyond that.
I'm not sure what you are asking in the second part of your post. I have been lucid dreaming multiple times a week for a very long time.

My all night lucid dreams have only happened three times in my life. I don't have much recall from them, but I can always tell because I know that I am able to initiate the dream at night. I have a solid and continuous stream of consciousness throughout the night, and I am usually amazed at how long the dream has lasted even before it is over. I continue being aware and in my dream until I wake up in the morning.
They are truly amazing experiences and I'm always left with a sense of awe.

My all night lucids have never involved false awakening. I have experienced false awakening many times during lucid dreams, but not the all night ones.

Sometimes they just happen from other dreams. I attempt to initiate them every night by imagining and object, or a particular surrounding, and then paying attention to it until I can see it. From there I usually focus on my legs and hands and my surroundings. I have had a lot of success with WBTB method, too.

Honestly, my success simply comes from paying attention to my state of mind when I am falling asleep, or on the verge of sleeping, and the fact that I did this for years. I used to sleep very late when I was young and I became fascinated by experiences I had, so I just began paying attention to it. I didn't actually have a lucid dream until about two or three years after I started doing this, however this was about twenty years ago.
Basically it came from many many hours of paying close attention while in various sleep states.
