Going too far with lucid dreams?

Hello. I have a question for you all: Is it possible to go too far with lucid dreaming to the point that your subconscious fights back? I have a friend that told me he went too far and did wild things to dream characters and engaged intimately all the time with female dream characters, until one day, BOOM! He lost all his abilities and now hasn't been recall anything for the past 5-6 months. Personally, I don't think I'll ever have this problem. I am always respectful to my dream characters and usually go with the flow. I don't really manipulate my world too much. So, is this possible? What do you think?

No, this is not possible. Your friend might be having a dry spell but it is not because his subconscious mad at him. More likely he is lacking sleep, confidence, disccipline, or all of those. Go wild and do what ever you want they are your dreams. Setting some crazy goals and achieving them will only help you on your journey.

I am not as difinitive as MadMonkey is on this. I have seen where my subconscious seems to put limits in place on me. I've had female DCs resist my crude advances but being tender to them rewards me. You cant force your subconscious to obey you. It seems to have its own mind sometimes.

I have gone far, far too far in other peoples eyes, nothing wrong with my lucidity so far. Although it being a consistent dream world and all, will more often than not encounter civilizations that still try to kill me lol

In my view, the “subconscious” or “unconscious” literally is you (all of it, even though it may not often feel like it because you aren't normally consciously aware of all parts of it at once). I don't feel it makes sense to treat it as some internal, independent entity inside of you that either approves or disapproves of what you do. This idea, I think, can probably even poison a person's LD potential and progress.

A lot of “limits” and “fighting back” in LDs, I think, might be a reflection of a person's expectations, beliefs, and their personal dream schema. If you truly believe your subconscious is going to lash out at you when you try to do something in a dream, for instance, chances are your dreams will indeed start reflecting this. Or perhaps it could be a representation of some sort of guilt or lack of confidence that one has forgotten about and is no longer aware of but still exists. Also, deciding that certain tasks are hard to pull off or will meet with resistance in LDs can make them that difficult. Such expectations can be incredibly difficult to remove again if they end up penetrating your mind and dream schema too deeply.

When I have difficulties in LD goals, I don't really feel like it's a “subconscious” holding me back. I think I'm just unintentionally holding myself back. Diving deeply into myself, trying to figure out how and why, and remedying it is part of the quest.

Exactly what I was thinking Travis but much more eloquently put! The subconscious in dreams is based on schema and expectations and does not necessarily have its own personality.

In my opinion, conscious and subconscious are two parts of the whole being... mostly separate (at least for me now). But my goal is to try to unify them into one integral lucid me, rather than separate entities that dont always cooperate. I think lucid dreaming is a tool that can help with this.

Well, I do not think there is much correlation between dream character abuse or dream environment destruction and a future lack of Lucid ability. I suspect that if the person genuinely thought that what they did was unethical or amoral their unconscious may 'punish' them by temporarily baring their conscious self from enjoying the fruits of the lucid dream state. It is pretty well documented that people with a guilty conscience can be beset with a variety of neurotic symptoms if the guilt remains unresolved, but whether there is such a thing a dream guilt, I have no idea if such a thing is likely. Everyone is unique in their psychological character, and how ever unlikely it may sound I think it is possible.
