"Puppeted" DCs?
I tried to talk to them, but it was like talking to myself and as if my thoughts dictated what they answered. I asked "Where is [object]?" and I noticed the thoughts running through my head ("What would the DC answer? Ah, I know - it might be in that house") and the DC responded exactly what I just thought. It would be better if they had an own will. Has anyone encountered this problem as well?

I don't see that it's a problem! One thing to keep in mind is that the DCs can manifest their own will (or something that approximates what we might expect to see from a being who has "free will"), but they won't necessarily do something like that either! Also, just because it happened once won't mean it will happen again! Once we imagine it's a problem, we give the situation a history and a sense of needing to overcome it. Not so good, because the dream will manifest those kinds of qualities.
You might just try asking one point-blank: where is your free will? That might be neat. Good luck!

And also you might try to not anticipate what their answers will be and maybe they will "find" their free will. Lol then after you've gained confidence in them you can try to read their minds if you want to

Thank you both, I tried your tips last night! This time, I spoke for the first time to dream characters that I knew from waking life and they actually behaved like real people. Just a bit confused and confusing, but that's ok. Maybe I was more open to the idea that they would have a free will than some stranger? Shows me once again that it's important to stay positive when learning to lucid dream :boogie:

“When scholars study a thing, they strive
To kill it first, if its alive;
Then they have the parts and they’ve lost the whole
For the link that’s missing was the living soul.”
― Mephistopheles, Goethe, Faust: First Part
Very Good book and quote Nyra.
Interesting points already from threecat and rastro.
I have had this happen to me as well, sometimes dream characters just reflect back at me what I am assuming they will say.
Sometimes they say the near opposite of what I am expecting.
But if you are looking for "authentic" dream conversations whose content is not dependent or extracted from your personal intentions and expectations I would suggest practising clearing your mind as much as possible before asking any questions.
