      Question Dream guide, several meanings?

      Hello!
      I am not a native english speaker so my mother tongue is latvian.

      In latvian we have like 3 words for english guide.
      Those are:
      * Gids
      * Pavadonis
      * Vadītājs

      How can I know which one to use?

      I mean, when asking to show me my dream guide, how can I know which one to use?

      Thanks!

      i know what you mean. in german the direct translation sounds shitty too. therefore i started to use the english word.
      do what feels best for you, you can use the english one or use tone that fits best of those you wrote there. in the end its about intention. you "know" what/whom you want to summon no matter how you call it

      Yeah, I was kind of thinking that way
      As long as I know what I mean, it shouldn't be a problem I guess

      To make things more complicated people have different understandings of the term dream guide too. Some think of it as a more spiritual thing like a spirit guide that appears in dreams. Some thing of it as anything that helps ypu in a dream, even n inanimate object such as a book and don't necessarily have any spiritual signifcance. On DV we call on-topic moderators dream guides sch as our new DGs Fogelbise and Saizaphod! I think of it as a dream character who stands out as smarter than the average DC and can become your mentor to teach you dream control and help you on your adventures.

      What ever interpretation you take I think as long as you know what it is in your mind when you say it it will help. Perhaps saying it in english is the best idea just because it has the most accurate usage.

      I think the main way dream guide is used (in the context of lucid dreaming) is a dream character who helps or aids you in particular ways. In general, this "dream guide" is capable of teaching you things you didn't know before, showing you new places, or helping you learn about yourself. The word "guide" in English implies someone who can show the way and be of assistance, but is not in an authoritarian position (so a dream guide will probably not try to force you to engage in the environment in any way).

      But I do think dream guides have that particular "aura" of being as knowledgeable as we are or more of the dream environment, and being able to pass that knowledge on or help the dreamer in some way. I don't know what those words in Latvian mean so I don't know which one would work best You could probably also use "dream teacher" or some such which would have more or less the same meaning.

      EDIT: I looked up the words! I did not see a meaning for "Gid," but pavadonis actually looks closer to the meaning used here than "vaditajs." May I meet my dream pavadonis tonight!
