Can LD fix Depersonalization? (HELP)

Hi - my name is Ethan and I think I am experiencing Depersonalization. This thread only slightly relates to LD, but I know users of this site have knowledge of consciousness and different forms of it. I wasn't sure where else to turn.

This all started 3 days ago on Friday night. Now, for the record I am not a regular user of drugs. However I have (only a few times in my life) smoked pot. Friday night was one of these times. All was normal and fine, except on Saturday evening, after I had been sober for over 8 hours, I began to feel as if I were getting high again. At least that's what I thought it was. Sunday morning I was fine again, but Sunday night (which was last night) I got this sensation again except much more intense. I felt kind of numb all over, I felt as if when I talked it wasn't really me talking, and I just felt very slumped. When I woke up this morning, I still had this feeling. Beginning to get frightened, I turned to google and found that I may be experiencing symptoms of Depersonalization disorder. I read that smoking pot could be a trigger of this. I am still experiencing the same sensations (it is around 6PM). Here are some examples:

- Last night I accidentally took a sip from a cup of vodka (not mine, I have never drank alcohol) instead of my cup of water. Vodka has a very strong smell and taste, but it took me over a second of it being in my mouth to realize my mistake! I immediately spit it out, but I realized that I could barely taste it and I couldn't smell it at all.
- Sometimes when I speak I feel as if I am listening to my voice from the outside.
- When I experience something painful, I know it hurts but it doesn't affect me at all.
- I feel as if my vision is kind of 'lagging'.

Over the last couple of hours I have been thinking positively and pushing away thoughts of fear, but the symptoms aren't subsiding. One thing I love to do is program in Java, but I haven't been able to focus enough to do that.

Could LD possibly help me deal with this issue? I've heard stories of people using dreams to overcome fears and issues before.

I don't know what to do because school starts in 3 days (I'm 15 turning 16, junior year of HS) and I don't know how to function like this. I haven't told anyone yet due to the fact that the most likely cause was drugs. Any advice or knowledge and support is greatly appreciated, thanks for reading!

Lucid dreaming is good for overcoming fears and issues in a way that isn't possible in waking life. If you have a way that you can possibly deal with the issue in waking life, you should do it in waking life rather than waiting for a lucid dream.

If you're having trouble distinguishing between what is real and what is not, then you shouldn't be doing anything dangerous during a lucid dream, especially if it's a false awakening.

My advice is to stay positive, let the symptoms be, and and seek professional help if the they persist. Also, if you're pushing away thoughts of fear, you should be prepared to have nightmares when sleeping. Try to stay as calm as possible if you have one and try to learn from them if you can. This is more constructive than being scared and trying to supress them. For example, if you're having a lucid nightmare, have a nice chat with the scary looking DC rather than trying to run away from it.

i would back up dophin here.
i think that you have an acute problem and nothing chronically that you can tackle with (learning to) lucid dreaming.

your condition, when not persistent, is an interesting experience but i totally get it to be scared because you dont know what it is and how longlasting it will be... (its not like taking some mushrooms and knowing in some hours i will be "normal" again...)

stay positive, try to relax and stay calm and i would talk to someone about it. if you are scared of the consequences to talk to your parents because you smoked pot maybe try a friend before. i think beeing alone with it just enhances the fears! and when its persist talk to your parents and see a doctor!

smoking pot is nothing earth-shattering. sure its not cool to tell the parents but in the end its about your health and your parents are there for you no matter what!

Thanks guys, I will stay positive and take all of your advice. If the symptoms persist to tomorrow, I will most likely fess up and go to the doctor.

Also Dolphin, when you said "Lucid dreaming is good for overcoming fears and issues in a way that isn't possible in waking life.", what did you have in mind for me to do when I do successfully find myself in a lucid dream? If I start practicing again, it shouldn't be too long until I have this opportunity!

Also if anyone else has any more advice, all help is greatly appreciated! I am looking for as much as possible so I can tackle this head on. Thanks!

As for dealing with this issue directly, I don't have anything in mind. But having something fun to look forward to doing in a lucid dream will help relieve some pressure in the situation you're in.

One effect weed has is a loss of reality if people use alot they sometimes don't know what is real and what is not. I had a friend who jumped of a building thinking he could fly , he only broke his foot thankfully , but drugs can be dangerous. Also weed will have a terrible effect on your dream memory and normal memory.
But i guess your question was about LD, I would suggest you start by writing a day journal about your daytime goals and fears and all emotions, and reality checking often, probably could help you, remember where you are now and where you are going and how did you get there. Also a great class is All day Awareness which means you are trying to be constantly aware all day long. And when you are feeling better and more connected to reality and have a more clear view of your goals in real life and sleep life then you will have alot of fun with LD.

And Please Don't Do Drugs ;-) save your memory
