REM cycle curiosity
.....|~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|............................ .|~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|........................
imagine that is R.E.M
Lets call the first squiggly lines rem1, and the second set of squiggly lines rem2.
If i wake up in the middle of rem1, can i re-enter the same phase? So imagine waking up in rem1, 4 mins later going back to sleep.
How would i feel? Would i be able to enter back into rem1? If so, that means REM Atonia must be triggered too.
Or if i cant enter back into rem1, then would i simply not be able to fall asleep at all?
Assuming rem atonia only happens at start of a rem phase (start of rem1, rem2 (first squiggly symbol) ). I'd have to be really patient waiting for rem2 to turn up.
I'm interested in this because im considering timing in WBTB and its confusing me.
Glad to hear all your thoughts!
EDIT: I think the answer to this question can reveal how long your time in REM will be after you perform WBTB. Things like that.

The thing is: each waking up can modify the whole patterns.
Also rem interruptions during night n will also perturbate the same rem coresponding phase the nigth n+1.
This is why it's hard to find a special timming for WILD.
By the way rem atonia is supposed to last the whole rem stage to prevent us to act our rem dreams for real.
When it lasts also after the end of the rem stage while we are awoken it's called sleep paralysis.

Read up on DEILD (Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dream), it is possible to wake and immediately reenter a dream. Even from Non-lucid to Lucid. Sometimes I will think as I find myself half conscious laying in bed and notice flashing patterns in my eyes, finally I'm falling asleep, only to realize I am in fact emerging from a non-lucid dream, and that I'm actually falling awake. I have only ever succeeded once or twice and from Lucid tho and never from a non-lucid (but have tried it at least 20+ times on falling awake). Some people will even intentionally wake from a Lucid that is destabilizing to reenter as a stabilization technique, and others even use devices to wake themselves in REM (after their devices detect this state and give a brief alarm) to then immediately reenter as a Lucid.
