Lucid ability massively improving...how to look for "answers" in dreams?

I have had unplanned lucid dreams on rare occasions throughout my life as well as sleep paralysis/terror. They have always happened spontaneously when I have awoke in the early hours and couldn't sleep for a while before dropping back off. They never lasted very long at all and I was rarely able to manifest anything in the way I wanted.

Just recently, the game has changed for me. Twice this past week (including last night) I have had multiple lucid dreams after waking unintentionally around 3-4am and falling asleep a couple of hours later. Its got to the point now where I know if I wake at this time I am almost guaranteed lucidity. What has been most exciting is that the paralysis and terror have been absent and I have been able to stay in the dream much longer than ever before. The transition from waking to dream has been almost seamless, starting with hypnogogic images and a loud ringing sound in my ears which has always been the number one cue for me that a lucid dream is imminent if I can just ride it out and not succumb to fear. I have felt myself either float up out of bed or, as was the case last night, "fall" down into a dream. These recent dreams have all taken place in a surreal, underground place with lots of narrow corridors and a sense of confinement. I wondered if this was common?

Last night was the best lucid dreaming experience I've ever had because I had determined whilst awake that I would search for answers in my dream to solving issues I have in real life. And this is exactly what happened. I came across a table filled with books and figured the "answer" would be in there somewhere. My question was unfortunately very vague, basically "How do I improve my life?". I picked up a book and the cover contained strange symbols which I simply could not decipher. I tried to figure out if it was an ancient script or something but it was nothing I'd ever seen before. Then when I read a passage inside the book, it was written in English but was nonsensical and I can't remember it now anyway. So I was part of the way there but when it came down to actually receiving a coherent message, none was there. I think maybe I need to be more specific with my questions. I don't mind, I have felt a real progression in my lucid abilities without actually setting out to do so in the first place. I am much calmer in my dreams, perhaps due to me meditating in everyday life and just general dreaming experience. Or maybe I just got lucky!

This was such an exciting experience for me. Lots of other stuff happened and there was a surreal false awakening at the end too. But I won't describe the whole dream here.

So I can now induce lucidity and maintain it. I still don't feel 100% in control all the time and I can't manifest things exactly as I want to. But I know I can work on this. My question really is, how should I best go about finding genuine guidance to my real life issues through my dreams? Or is this not even possible or necessary? I still get caught up in the novelty or trying to fly and have sex etc. Whilst this is fun, what I really want is to delve into my subconscious and see if I can do some personal "healing".

Apologies if this is a long winded and confusing post. This is all still relatively new to me. I have felt great today but also unable to focus properly at all.

Congratulations on your lucid dreams. I believe that meditation and general dreaming experience are the conditions in this case for you to have more lucid dreams, so it's not just luck. But now since you are able to have them with no problems i would recommend to master the ability of entering lucid dreams or attaining lucidity in dreams, and then maintain this awareness in the dreams or prolong it until it's either lost or you wake up. After you this you can give importance to find answers for your life issues because you know you will have the tool of lucid dreaming for whenever you need it.

About resolving issues in dreams. I would suggest to use what comes out on the surface rather than looking something up. Doing this you identify the problem, rather than looking for problems and answers together, and then you can begin resolving it in a process. After things on surface are dealt with, and that you are with a sense of peace and clarity established then you can begin to explore other issues.

What do i mean with what comes out on the surface? If i would be a non-lucid dream, then recall the dream and try to do a simple personal interpretation of the dream and after this label it as resolved. If it is a lucid dream, inside the dream remain patient and equanimous to whatever happens and try to find out the causes of why that particular situation is happening: either you are involved in a social situation, maybe you are alone in a familiar environment (asking yourself why are you there, or how do i remember this place), you are having a talk or seeing someone who you don't see anymore (why am im having this talk, what do i want from this person or conversation, what is it that i couldnt let go from this relationship, do i need/want to stay here or can i go somewhere else, what misconceptions do i have of the things i need/want, or whatever you would like to ask yourself), etc. Dreams are really a playground and workplace for resolving problems, but i wouldn't say for problems that you bring and want to solve but rather those which are presented right there in that moment; so IMO it is in that sense that dreams would be useful for resolving issues. However DreamViews dream guides give more knowledge on this topic.

What makes you say that all this was lucid dreaming? All the stuff you describe reads like normal non-lucid dreaming, with dream incubation and a false awakening.

I think the first step to really getting things set in place to find answers, is awareness. Practice being aware as often as you can while lucid and it will make you sure of your abilities and also increase focus as well as the duration of the dream. Once you've done this and really set the stage in your lucid dreams, I would then search for your answers. Remember, there is a lot of symbolism in dreams and just because you don't understand something at the given moment doesn't mean that it won't "click" later. And yes, try more specific questions. You'll get some interesting answers for sure.

Another thing, I don't think you've experienced a stroke of luck, that really doesn't happen too much with lucid dreaming. I think your results has had a lot to do with your meditation.

      That's just my two cents,

      Thanks for the replies

I am reality checking a lot each day and have now started a dream journal. My meditation practice is getting stronger too so I'm hoping this has an effect on my LD's (although this is not the reason I meditate in general).

Whilst I may not yet be getting clear answers in my dreams, could it be that I am still figuring things out subconsciously without being aware of it? I often find when I awake from some dreams that my mood can be affected the whole day afterwards, even if the dream itself made no sense and I had poor recall of it. Lots to learn!

I am certain it was a lucid dream. I was able to fly and choose direction, I was able to manifest the books and chose which one to read. There were other things too which I didn't mention but I felt in control of the situation and definitely aware that I was dreaming. I had non-lucid dreams last night and I could tell the difference.

My technique is to simply call out to the dream. Sometimes I will get a god-like voice say the answer, or a reply will manifest onto the dream as a new scene.
