What to do in the void

Lately I've been having a lot of my LDs fade in and out of darkness. I used to wake up when this would happen but not anymore. I usually either just wait for a new scene to form, imagine a new scene, or touch something. I've had a few dreams where half of the time is spent in total darkness. I'm not sure why this is happening. I'm happy I'm able to stay in the dream. I was thinking I should try to work with it, maybe try singing, meditating, running or asking the dream questions and see if I can get any answers.
I was wondering how often this happens to others and what their experiences of it have been. Is there anything unique you can do in this space? Any ideas why this may be happening more frequently?

I've spent a lot of lucid dreams in total darkness. Mostly because I messed up with lighting and the dream fell apart into darkness. I ended up reviving an item from a dc called bottled starlight and I just use it and the dream will light up.

I find playing with sensations of touch and bodily awareness are fun and help encourage a sleep phase more conducive to visual dreaming. I sometimes dance around, or just walk around. Probably the best fun I have is practicing transformation by manipulation of bodily awareness. I imagine wings spreading, and flexing, and other changes until I can feel myself as the thing I am transforming into.

Well assuming sivason, Him, and myself are all on different teams in the competition and you are on mine here is my advice:

If you find yourself in the void in the competition do something that is worth points, for instance in a past competition I was able to do pocket summonation
You could find something to eat, you could of course look for a flashlight at your waist to bring back light, or maybe better have a goal of summon light saber as a new/or old personal goal and summon that. I also have performed an old goal 'Play the musical hand' (where you use your cupped hands as a wind instrument, which I can do fairly well in real life).

On the other hand if you're not on my team, just totally give up in the void, its hopeless :)

I've had it happen a few times, though not very often, so I haven't had too many opportunities to experiment with it. Usually I try to keep the dream going by encouraging continued sensory input in some way, such as by tapping my ears to create sound or reaching down and feeling whatever I happen to be standing on. This frequently seems to help kickstart the formation of a new dream scene and visuals.

I've heard it suggested that a void can be used as an opportunity to create a new, custom dream scene or imagery. I once hit a void in a LD and tried to make a particular fantasy creature appear by reaching out my hand in the darkness and trying to “feel” the character's shape. I ended up with a shadowy life-sized figure that seemed about right, but the dream ended before I had a chance to bring it into a lighted room so I could get a good look at what I had just created. I definitely want to play with things like this some more the next time it happens.
