Was this 1 or 2 LDs?

It's been a while since my last LD, like a loong while. So I got in and it was fairly stable, but somehow I woke up pretty fast seemingly without warning. Upon waking I didnt move, I didnt even really think, I just went right back to sleep so I could keep it, and surely enough I went back into my LD and continued on. So it went from LD to waking back into a LD. Does that count as 2 or since it was brief waking, just 1 with a minor disruption? I only ask because I do care about my LD count accuracy.

I would count it as 2 since it was a real awakening. DEILDing after waking up isn't guaranteed and takes some skill, so I think it should count as another LD.

Yes, I would consider it 2 seperate LDs as well. As dolphin mentions above - the method you made use of is called DEILD (Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dream). Dreams are tricky to count, and I don't think there's any one particular standard. Many people say that each DEILD counts as a new dream due to the awakening, and this makes sense, though in my dream journal I for some reason tend to count them as a single dream if the overall plot remains the same. I'm not sure why, perhaps I just tend to think of my dreams in terms of logical self-contained “plots” or “episodes” and prefer to keep records of closely-related things together even if briefly broken up by awakenings or interruptions. So I'd say it's up to you.

But also, I'd suggest that in the end, the exact LD count may not really be all that important. I've personally been starting to learn not to worry much about my LD count (despite having kind of an obsessive fascination with counting things), partly due to this reason as well as the fact that I've had some LDs in childhood I never recorded, meaning that I really have no way to have an exact tally anyway. Although the count is a handy way to get a rough measure of progress, there's more to developing LDing than just the LD count (and I especially don't think it's a good idea to compare counts against anyone else's, as there are far too many variables for it to be a good comparison of experience, skill, etc.). I figure it's better to try to focus on quality and not get too caught up in worrying only about quantity.
