Would 120mg twice a week be ok?
Looked it up on wikipedia real quick,
Your dosing schedule seems fine. B6 is water soluble so unless you're taking more than 200mg daily, as the quote says, you'll just urinate it out.Quote:
Sensory neuropathy typically develops at doses of pyridoxine in excess of 1,000 mg per day, but adverse effects can occur with much less, so doses over 200 mg are not considered safe.[34] Symptoms among women taking lower doses have been reported.[35]
Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin HOWEVER, it is metabolized by the liver into pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (P5P). P5P is highly bound to protein and cannot be excreted by the kidney. This leads to an effective half-life of 2 to 3 WEEKS.
If you took a huge dose your Liver could not metabolize it all and most of it would be urinated out.
But, if you take 200mg or more nearly every day it builds up day after day to potentially toxic levels.
So you don't want to take that much, or at least don't take that much every day.
(So if you took 120mg twice a week it should be fine, but realize that at steady state (after a few months) there would be several times this amount of the highly bound form in your system)
Only anecdotal, but I've been taking 150mg B6 daily for months now. In the past it was 300mg/day, but I decided to drop it below 200mg just to be on the safer side. 120mg twice a week isn't going to do you any harm.
However if you were to take higher amounts longer term though like I am, then pay attention to any side effects as some may be more sensitive than others. I personally have had no side effects, but you might be different.
