Fitness Tracker Sleep Stages Graphs

I recently obtained a Fitbit and it has a feature that tracks your sleep stages throughout the night. I thought the graphs were interesting, so I thought I'd post them to get some opinions on the accuracy of them as well as stimulate some discussion on how the advent of new and more readily accessible technologies can positively or negatively affect lucid dreaming. What I've been considering doing is using this predict a R.E.M. period and set an alarm to wake me just before it occurs so I can be more efficient in my lucid dreaming practices.

Nice! For years I've wanted something that does this, yet I've still not bought a fitbit. I used to have a REM alarm thing on my phone years ago, but it wasn't quite accurate enough.

Your images there look pretty damn accurate. Roughly 90 mins between each REM stage. It's definitely accurate enough data to use for waking you up during REM. Have you found an alarm for the fitbit that uses that data?

I don't know of an alarm that directly uses that data but I can set a normal alarm on it. That would be nice if I could have it wake me up during a certain sleep stage; I'll keep exploring to see if I can find something like that but as of right now it seems that I have to be the link between the data and alarm. So you would recommend having it wake me up while I'm in R.E.M. and maybe use DEILD?

Yeah if you can get an alarm to wake you up while in REM (and preferably one that rings like twice or thrice and then stops), you've got yourself a golden ticket for DEILD.

Of course it's good for WILD in general, WBTB is important to get right, so the alarm gives you a bullseye. But I do love DEILD, so quick and easy.

Awesome I'll have to try that. The Fitbit has a vibrating alarm that I can set but the only problem is it doesn't turn off on its own. I'll try that out at first but if it turns out it wakes me up too much I'll try to find a way to send a message to my phone at a certain time. Maybe some app will be able to do that.

Just remember if you do have to turn off the alarm it's not the end of the world. If you do it exerting the least amount of effort possible, you have a good chance of successfully DEILDing. Or maybe you'd just call it a quick WILD, same thing really.

Slash112, I've heard about this alarm a long time ago, but can't remember it now. I'm actually looking for it now to help with my DEILD practice. I've recorded my own voice saying "Do not move" and now I need an alarm app that only repeats it for a couple times.

I tried this last night but I think I woke myself up a bit too much. As I was turning off the alarm I naturally moved from the position I was in. I checked the graph and it seems I did wake up during a R.E.M. period but after I fell asleep I was in light sleep for approximately 30 minutes before going into R.E.M. again. I'll try it again tonight and set my intentions to not move. If all else fails, it'll be the perfect time for WILD.

Yeah there's a bunch of apps I've used in the past, I can't remember a single one of them though. And I've recorded my voice saying that too haha, it's a good wee trick :D

The most important part, whether you do DEILD or ordinary WILD, is to stay conscious. With all your power of intention, stay conscious. With DEILD, repeat "I am going into a dream" in your mind and use all your power to not stop saying it, even as you drift off. If you did exit from a REM period it should technically be possible to enter back into one if you assert your consciousness.

Another hint though, aim for the start of a REM period, if you can.
