Hello,
I wonder if I can practise a language in lucid dreams. I learnt how to inflect words in the different cases of the language and I've forgotten it partially.
Can I retrieve the information in my dreams nevertheless?
Practice within lucid dreams counts as a genuine form of practice.
Retrieving information that you've forgotten, that's a bit trickier. You could try it. Perhaps manifest a book into your hands and imagine it to hold all your past knowledge of language, and start reading.
It might work, it might not.
But, if you learn language during the day, then practice it in a lucid dream, that would be a pretty powerful way to practice.
Practicing by yourself is quite possible, It depends on how much you recall, but conversing with others in another language will give you mixed results within the dream. You might get better results if you were in a place where people usually spoke in those language to stabilize it a bit. This reminds me of the time when I was little I had a dream where I was in an unfamiliar place. The language people in the dream talked were also something I didn't know. In later years going over my old journals I realize it was mandarin. I wish I had note down more of these non-English dreams in detail.
Oh yes that has happened to me. A dream character once spoke in japanese, english, and french in one sentence. But it's all the language I knew though. It was broken, but it made sense.Quote:
Could it happen that the people speak German, English and Slovak in one sentence in my dream? I think I would laugh if it happened xD
It was around when I was 11 and I did not know mandarin at the time. In fact, right now even as an adult I only know few phrases. I'd like to think the dream was tapping into a collective consciousness of sorts, but it could be something I may have heard on TV or online. ^^'Quote:
How can someone's brain use a language which someone doesn't speak? Or could you already speak Mandarin at that time?
I think it's better to use a teacher in my dream who explains me how to inflect words because the tables I learnt will change because it's a dream and they're dynamic
Oh I never thought about that! Creating a teacher to teach you. So simple. So elegant.
haha interesting. I actually used lucidity in order to get better at English back when I wanted to speak it properly. It does works, and so far its helped me a lot with my studying not only of languages but of other subjects too.
I think it could help you, or it might slow you down. I am sure anyone that has written down and remembered their dreams for any amount of time have had the experience where you think something happened in RL but it was actually a dream. I think its inverse is much more plausible. You 'remember' something from RL and it turns out to not have happened or exist. I have done that a lot with different things. For me pretty much anything that I didn't already know very well could be manipulated in my dreams unintentionally.
I guess an example would be for music. Lets say you played trumpet when you were younger. You didn't get very good, but you learned the basic notes and how to read them. Lets say in the present day you want to learn how to play the trumpet in your dreams. While you are playing you may find that the notes you are playing or reading are the right ones. But when you wake up, and actually play your trumpet, the notes don't sound anything like what they were in your dream because your brain was just filling in the pieces it didn't know. I have played bass for many years and even while I am awake I cant think of what the 8th fret on the d string for example sounds like (this would be different if I had perfect pitch).
So for language I think if its something you knew very well it might be of some use, but if there's any doubt your brain might trip you up a bit.Hopefully some of this made sense.
