      Free Online Reality Check

I've created a simple and portable online reality check - It's subtle and easy to use and will allow you to perform a reality check in any situation where you have access to your smartphone.

Sometimes pinching your nose, counting your fingers, or attempting to fly is a little socially awkward, in this case you can just check your phone.

Add it as a bookmark on your smartphone homepage for easy access...

I like how you describe things

1- Reality checks are as much a state of mind
      as they are a test.
There is no point performing a test
if one's mind is not fully engaged in the process
and open to the strong possibility that one is dreaming.
      *

      2- Ideally one should perform
multiple different tests during each reality check.
      This allows for a fail-safe*
should one of the tests provide false results.
Two reliable tests to combine are
      the*Nose Pinch Test*and the*Text Test.*
      *

3- Rather than enter a reality check
with the assumption that one is awake,
      reverse this concept,
      assume that
the very act of performing a reality check
implies that one is most likely dreaming.
The burden of proof should be*on
      proving that you are awake.
This way, should a test give false results,
you will assume that you are dreaming rather than awake.*
      *

4- Reality checks are not optional,
      without them
      you will miss potentially thousands
      of possible lucid dreams.*
      They are an act*that reflects
the core philosophy of lucid dreaming.
      *

5- Reality checks are primarily used
to induce Dream Initiated Lucid Dreams (DILD)
      but can be used to
      stabilize,
      build confidence,
      or confirm one's state
during a Wake Initiated Lucid Dream (WILD).**

I like the concept, but unfortunately the animation is way too slow.
Not something for me... I won't spend a minute doing a single reality check, I'm perfectly fine with the habit of so-called fast reality checks that I described in a previous post of mine. Even counting my fingers is faster, and I've had a 100% success rate with it. Also, after a conversation with Letaali I no longer find reality checks socially awkward and I can do them wherever I want.
      That's just my opinion though.

I know this thread hasn't been touched for some time, but I have a very important question:
Do you, Daniel Love, assume responsibility for any individual to assume that they are dreaming if they find that the website does not function according to the specifications given?
In other words, are you responsible for the truth value of this statement:
"If the website does not count from one to five, then I am dreaming"
...if so, I'd like to use it in one particular proof of the surjectivity of some reality checks.

Because most of us can assume high trust for machines, I would like to use that statement as an axiom.

@misotanni - No, of course not, absolutely no reality check is foolproof. Anyone using this or any other means to reality check should be entirely aware of their fallibility and potentially false results. This is why I regularly suggest the use of two or more reality checks at any given time. Each individual assumes full responsibility for the conclusions they draw when testing reality, by whichever means they choose. Of course, with a website or any other electronic or communications system, it is impossible to account for all possible scenarios, bugs, connection/hardware issues etc.

The idea of the reality check included on that page is to draw attention to the concept itself and the importance for one to give considered attention and time to each test (rather than the usually rushed nose pinch).

Also to respond to your previous post, the very idea is that the animation is slow, too many people rush reality checks, focusing on a mechanical reaction to the results, rather than a well-considered and thoughtful assessment of one's entire scenario. Five well-considered reality checks that last a minute are worth 20 quick mindless tests.

      Thanks for your reply, Daniel.
Unfortunately I find that you're misunderstanding two very important details:

      1. Most reality checks can fail. But when you mean fail, you are talking about a negative result (indicating waking) in a dream. I accept this possibility entirely.
What I would like to know is something entirely different: whether this reality check will never give a positive result (indicating a dream) in waking life.
Obviously this is something only you can know, since you designed the website, and this is what I'm asking you - can I be certain that you've programmed the website to always indicate that you're awake whenever you actually are? In other words, no pranks such as reprogramming it on Lucid Dreaming Day? This is all I need to know.

      2. Fast reality checks are quite different from mindless reality checks. One does not imply the other. All that "fast" indicates is that they require relatively little time - in comparison to other reality checks - to perform. This is no measure of how much mind activity is devoted to the attempt of discovering the truth about one's dreamstate. There is a correlation, but reality check speed is not the only factor that comes into play. It is certainly possible to perform mindful fast RCs, and mindless slow RCs.

misotanni⚘ Thank you for coming back to this thread.

Computer gaming addicts and others in front of a computer screan, for work, 8 hours a day, dream about that. In 2008 I left my hiptop phone on all night and it would cry out "New Message" when ever there was activity on Saltcube forum.

Thrilled, I would come out of my sleep to look at my email notification. I'm in Australia and the scintillating arguments on that lucid dream forum would happen when I was supposed to be asleep. But I was So o o happilly addicted to that Saltcube Forum hahaha.

It did lead to peculiar dreams. Dreams of me checking the forum and reading wildly amazing stuff while asleep

      BUT

I'd wake up for real in the morning, enthusiastically check the site. But the thrilling stuff wasn't there any more.

      I'd just dreampt it

Heres more from that page on reality checks link in my other post post 2

      Introduction

A*reality check, also known as a*reality test*or*critical state testing*(LaBerge), is a staple and vital aspect of standard lucid dream practice.*

In essence, a reality check is a simple test one performs to establish if one is either dreaming or awake. Perhaps the oldest known reality check is the folk wisdom to "pinch yourself to see if you're dreaming", however this is a somewhat unreliable test.*

There are a multitude reality checks, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. To date, there is no "perfect" test and each has the potential to fail:*giving*false results.**

The following tutorial outlines the basic principles behind all reality checks, the various available tests are listed individually in the technique section.*

      The Technique

      1) Using one's*dream journal*compile a list of "dream signs", a dream sign is any theme that regularly occurs in one's dreams.*

      2) During one's waking hours regularly perform your chosen reality check whenever something unusual, unexpected,*or dreamlike occurs. Be especially vigilant to perform a reality check whenever a waking event closely resembles one of your dream signs.*Regularity and consistency are*absolutely key, you are attempting to develop a new default lifestyle behaviour.*

3)*Be certain to perform each*test seriously and with full critical awareness—do not simply assume that you are awake.*Do not*allow yourself to perform a test on "auto pilot", it is vital that you perform each reality check with a critical mind and full lucid awareness.*

      4) Perform a minimum of 10 reality checks each day, ideally many more. Reality testing should become a natural default behaviour, performed daily, for the duration of your life*as a lucid dreamer.*

      5) As dreams closely mimic our waking life events and thought patterns, the idea is that developing the habit of regularly reality checking during one's waking life will eventually transfer into the dream world, at which point it will instigate a Dream Initiated Lucid Dream (DILD).*

Even if the site programmer promises never to change the code, it's essentially impossible to guarantee that an anomaly would never occur. One could even happen on a user's own device, totally outside the control of the site developers, or one could accidentally have malicious software on their device that manipulates the site's behavior in their browser, or even a hack or break-in of the site itself could occur. This may be an unlikely event, but it is absolutely possible, and these sorts of general exploits have commonly occurred and still do in today's world. I therefore think the recommendation of using multiple reality checks is good advice.

Personally, though, while I don't think Daniel would want to harm anyone, I'd feel safer sticking with RCs involving things I physically own and have full control over, rather than trusting some website over the World Wide Web that relies upon a very complicated and volatile mesh of software to maintain its own integrity.
