Interestingly, reading through my dj I ran across a post where I discussed this subject (the pursuit of lucidity affecting the analyzability of dreams - not the actual subject of the thread - sorry, just this quick diversion and I'll let it snap back). I specifically said in a note under one dream that I noticed when I'm concentrating on lucidity the dreams become about that, but when I don't I get more dreams relating to my life in a psychological sense. I imagine though that a more experienced lucid dreamer, once they've gotten past struggling to achieve lucidity on a regular basis, will get past that stage and get into the deeper dreams. Probably it also makes a difference what I've been thinking about/doing during waking hours. If it's been about self-analysis, then that's going to show up a lot. It occurs to me I should probably alternate between the 2 approaches from time to time.

      Ok, back to it then!

It sounds like your first recorded LDs had some length to them. They were interesting to read. You did a lot in that first one too. And yeah, it could be good to try to have some LDs too and get past the initial stages of LDing. I wonder if it would be easy for you to get lucid intentionally at this point since you've had some experience with it. And I think what you wrote about experienced lucid dreamers getting past the initial struggle of maintaining lucidity and such is true. Robert Waggoner writes quite a lot about going deeper in the dream world in his book Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self. It's really fascinating to think that lucid dreaming can be a conduit to communicating directly with the unconscious mind, though I'm sure it isn't for everyone (I don't know if it's for me yet either :p) and can potentially be frightening if you're not ready for it. I've become pretty interested in that aspect of lucid dreaming, but I have a long way to go I think. Still gotta start having actual LDs again.

Oh those weren't my 1st recorded dreams by a long shot!! That's my 2nd DJ in here, and long before there was an internet or computers, I was writing them down in notebooks (the kind with spiral bindings and cardboard covers) . Here's my original DJ in here: Because the Dark Matters. I did copy over some of my earlier 'classic' dreams from the original paper journals though, and even some that I still remembered from before I was writing them down. The link goes directly to what I believe might be my 1st Galantamine dream. I didn't write that info, but in the next dream I did write that I had been taking it for a while but unsuccessfully. I don't remember now, but that might mean unsuccessful because I was paralyzed and the dream was so messed up. At any rate, this dream definitely shows the same effects I tend to get while using supplements (and not normally). Enjoy.

Ah, okay. That was poorly phrased on my part then. Thanks for the link! I'll have a look at your dreams over there as well.

I've performed another trial this morning with more WILD success! Will give more details when I have a chance but so far my findings seem consistent, that it tends to amplify LDing success rather than trigger it, and that it makes WILDs likely.

Awesome!! Do you get any of the weird effects like I mentioned, paralysis or trouble walking or being blind in the dreams? It might just be certain people who do.

I historically* tend to have those occasionally, generally when I WILD instead of DILDing. However I don't see a particular exacerbation of this when taking supplements (besides the fact that I WILD more). For me in particular, the problem I've historically had with WILDs is that my waking body's position can impose effects on my dream body. For instance, once I was laying on my side with one eye pressed into the pillow; in the dream, I was blind out of that eye, and the dream was in "portrait mode" instead of the default "landscape". I've also had instances where my waking arm is between my legs (or in the case of a few nights ago, trapped under my dog), so my dream arm is paralyzed or more difficult to move. Once when my waking body was twisted like a pretzel, my dream had no way to interpret it and just threw me in as a point of consciousness, sort of like "spectator mode". Pretty interesting, but happens infrequently, since all of the spontaneous WILDs I'm getting lately are tipping the balance in the other direction.

@Voldmer, I tried guayusa** again this morning during WBTB and didn't have any lucids, but did have some quite vivid, long storylike dreams that were incredible! Will definitely be trying again.

      * I say historically as I don't want to validate any negative schemas about what will happen when I do X. Expectation is everything after all.
** Guayusa was again Numi brand (blend of guayusa, lemon verbena, and ginger), brewed at night time hot for 10 minutes, then covered and placed in the fridge until WBTB time.
Pretty interesting taste drinking it cold!

Yes, there is definitely a connection between WILDing and the paralysis/blindness etc type of effects, and feeling your sleeping body's position or pressure from the bed. I once dreamed I was wearing a robe, mittens and socks, I think because I could feel sheets against my body everywhere.

I think in both cases (WILD and for some of us galantamine) it's because your awareness is a little too high so all those body signals are still coming in (they're supposed to be 'switched off' when sleeping). I think in my case the galantamine just brings me to that state of a little too much physical awareness. I should probably experiment with lesser amounts of it.

I wonder if each of my paralysis dreams were WILDs? I certainly don't remember going directly into the dreams, it always seems I fall asleep for a while first.

I agree with your theory of hyper awareness due to WILD/supplements. For instance, I tried a trick last night of summoning & loudly chewing crunchy granola throughout the lucid to engage all 5 senses*. However since I had taken Huperzine, I was aware of my waking "morning breath" and that's what the granola tasted like. Not a very pleasant taste.

As far as having WILDs that don't seem like WILDs, this has happened to me. I sort of nod off initially, then wake up again (without having a dream) and quickly enter a still-forming dream with awareness. Instead of a DEILD, it's sort of a SEILD (Sleep-Exit-Initiated LD), which I still consider a "spontaneous WILD".

*See the granola in your hand, smell it, feel the texture as you throw it in your mouth, taste and hear the crunch as you chew. In theory, it can continuously stabilize for a long period throughout the dream.

Tried HzA + Choline at WBTB. Produced one DILD and one very long "dream within a dream" -- a first for me. The inner dream was lucid while the outer was not. Also a 19 part Netflix series on the band Smashmouth of which I witnessed 3 episodes (nonlucid) and some cool new running powers I wanted to try (also nonlucid). Overall very interesting night

Necroing my own dead thread to mention that I've started up with Huperzine A again. I actually dropped the does to ~40 mcg (I broke the 100 mcg tablet in half so it's a guess). Added Choline 350 mg which I've decided to start taking pretty much daily anyway. Taken at WBTB after about 5 hours of sleep and 1-2 hours of wakefulness.

My hypnagogia was very intense - heard an unknown woman's voice calling my name as well as other conversations and saw shadows dance on my eyelids. Also felt very intense "brain vibrations" which is new for me - if I've had SP/WILD vibrations it's always been full body. Possibly this is similar to what I experience with melatonin, where for me a smaller dose has a different and slightly more potent effect? The same thing always happens to me with Benadryl, as a kid, if I took 1 I would get intense waves of soothing vibrations up my back and fall asleep almost every time, but if I took 2 I would be fine and barely get drowsy.

Had a few NLs followed by a DILD that was extremely vivid - temperature (even the air temperature and the feeling of wind on my skin), environmental sounds (not common for me), background music and the ability for me to project my intent into a melody, amazing water and sand simulation, was able to initialize and sense my whole body while usually it's just my hands. Also pretty good length, about 2-5 minutes total. I have to say I really enjoyed this experience although I didn't do much but play around in the very soothing and peaceful environment.

After this I woke and had more vivid NLs. Most involving food of some sort, maybe as a way of showing off that with these supplements my brain was able to simulate taste very effectively. I ate the most delicious bread-chicken (don't know how else to describe it) and waffle fries with mustard and secret sauce. The other thing I noticed was that the scale of the dream imagery was vast. The strange combination New York/New Orleans ballroom I was in with my wife was enormous and ornate, followed by an outdoor parade where the floats were works of gothic architecture with hundreds of people populating their overlapping arches. It was a pretty amazing.

Will be trying this again for sure.

Quick comment to say that Reishi mushroom tea helped make all of my nonlucid and lucid dreams much more vivid last night! I brewed the tea hot and added a few slices of fresh ginger, drank a sip during the day, then put it in the fridge to cool. I downed the cup before bed.

As a result, I had several vivid NLs and a long, vivid DILD with the strangest sensations I've had to date. Would recommend! The brand I use is Traditional Medicinals Reishi Mushroom Tea, and I brew it for a long time & squeeze the bag to get all the goodness out. I don't mind the taste but I'm sure it could be off-putting to some.

Hi Zad, I'm curious if you have had similar effects from the reishi on additional nights?

I've just brewed a cup sweetened with a fresh-squeezed clementine, so I'll let you know how it works out.

Not much luck, I had a short night's sleep and poor recall. I can remember a pretty long NL in which I was a child participating in some kind of competition or challenge that seemed life-or-death. The shreds of memory I have of it are pretty detailed, but I can't say for sure whether that had anything to do with the tea. I'll give it a shot again when I have more time to sleep.
I will say, with this particular brand of Reishi tea (Traditional Medicinals), just squeezing any citrus into it will help 100% with the flavor. And the clementine acted as a natural sweetener as well. Very tasty!
