Can you scream out of your dreams ?

A couple of days ago, I dreamed that I was watching a movie at night, an horror movie. I went up to go to the bathroom, and when I looked at the door, some characters from the movie went in the door way and screamed, which totally freaked me out. I really screamed as hard as I could, and I even thought I was screaming in real life. This fortunatly woke me up, and that bad dream was now done with.

Which brings me to my other point - When you speak in your lucid dreams, can your family hear you ? Can you speak in real life and say the same thing you say in your dreams ? I don't feel like saying "Some really hot girls will be next door" outloud or talk of personnal subjects in dreams and have my whole family hear them.

So I'm asking, has it ever happened to you ?

No, when you are asleep your entire body is paralyzed, except for your eye movements. When they do tests with lucid dreamers, the only way the dreamer can communicate with the outside world is by moving their eyes. I've had the same fears before too, but now I scream in my dreams with confidence. Sometimes it's fun to just yell things at the top of your lungs and know that nobody can hear you.

I used to be worried about that when I firstt started .. and still sometimes I do ,with stuff I'm saying or even when I'm screaming if they can hear me in the Waking Life. But I learned and as Revero said : when your asleep your entire body is paralyzed, except for your eye movements. So not to worry no one can :wink:

Not trying to alarm you or anything, but sometimes peoples bodies don't fully enter sleep paralysis, and what they do in a dream they end up doing in real life.

My dad, for example, has had times where he would stand on the very edge of the bed on his tip-toes and balance there while sleeping, thinking he's doing it at work.

My brother in law, he dreampt he was falling off of a boat or something, and he started flailing around in bed like he was in the water...

And you ever hear of sleep talkers? They talk in their sleep all the time, and chances are what they are saying, is stuff they are saying while dreaming...

Don't dismiss the possibility of it...

I know I talk in my sleep from time to time, Maybe I'll record it tonight, see if I get anything out of it. Wish I could Lucid Dream with ease >.>. Not really sure if what you're saying is always what you're dreaming though. There's also the fact that you might not remember the dream where you were talking. I would imagine that if you knew what you said(recording, someone listening, etc)that you may be able to remember your dreams better also. Only part for screaming I've ever done is waking up partially yelling.

Kind of like when you're not fully sleeping and you protect yourself from something with your arm in real-life, waking you up?

I think I have laughed in my sleep. It woke me up. I don't remember what I was dreaming about, but I had to keep laughing because it was so funny. I don't think I have ever screamed in my sleep. I think it'd be too hard to do without waking yourself up.

Sometimes the last things I remember saying in a dream as I am waking up, I will feel my mouth move. I don't know if I am talking out loud though.

I know I have talked in my sleep before, I have been told. But I just sort of mumble. My dad on the other hand speaks clearly in an imaginary language sometimes.

I used to sleep in a bunk bed when I was younger, so there was a ladder to the left of my head.
I had a dream and I was lying in the road and a car was coming so I did a chinese get-up to get out of the way, and somehow I did it in real life too. THing was that I did it to the side so that I could get out of the road, so I ended up hitting my head extremely hard on the metal ladder. Needless to say it woke me up.

This periodically happens to me. If I am laughing so hard at something that occurred in my dream I will wake up still laughing. It is a pleasant feeling.

Same could happen with screaming I suppose.

I am familiar with people sleeptalking. I wonder if that is related with laughing and screaming and at what stage of sleep this happens?

I remember the day when everyone in my family told me that I was singing a song while sleeping. All of a sudden I remembered that dream.

I have noticed many people talking in dreams. I dont know the theory behind it. I have talked many times in my dreams.

One day I screamed out saying " Thief... Thief .... " Just like saying " Fire... Fire..."


But if I count all those experiences, it will not go more than ten.

If you talk in your sleep, it might happen. Don't worry, though, I doubt it's any more embarassing than being caught talking in your sleep normally :)

I think in a lucid dream some of the things you may be saying could be a bit more embarassing than the average sleep talk.

I've had a dream where I was talking out loud... My brother was able to tell me the exact things I said in the dream when I woke.
