I do not belive that we get these types of dreams. On occation we may ironicly have a dream and then parts of it "come true" the next day, btu nothing concrete. But who knows, you could be special and they will just come to you :P
I've had dreams before where something happens, and I find myself given a choice later that day and taken the one that corresponds with said dream, but that could just be me. I try not to believe in anything like that, but sometimes I can't help but wonder. I have had dreams before about conversations which happen later and I know exactly whats coming next, and it does. But hey, thats me, could be I just know these people so well I know whats coming days before it happens lol.

The most important thing you can do to encourage dreaming of any kind is to locate your Caps Lock key - and turn it off. All-caps is viewed as "screaming" or "yelling" on the forums and, as we all know, screaming and yelling isn't conducive to productive dreaming.
Whether or not prophetic dreaming exists is hotly debated.
The only way to know for sure is to keep a dream journal and write _Specific Detail_ every time. Check a real-world experience that you think you may have dreamed against the specific detail. If any details are wrong - then it's just the mind filling in the blanks, as it is so good at doing.

I have had dreams in which something has happened, and then it happened during the day or the next week. But nothing BIG. It hasn't happened to the point of being significant, just something to make me think "heh, cool".

I find I experience deja vous about three or four times per week. I believe they are most likely just coincidence, and even if they aren't they don't really help much because you are usually only able to predict about ten seconds of a conversation. It also seems that I almost never remember a dream before it occurs in real life. I believe that the reason for this is that the "prophetic" dream was extremly vague, so chances were that something similar was bound to happen while you were awake.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't try to have prophetic dreams because I may very well be wrong.

I personally believe that prophetic dreams are 99.99% impossible. Most of the time, I think it's probably your mind creating the sensation that you have seen something before in your dream when in reality you probably didn't. In my book this would be similar to deja vu, where your mind creates the feeling that you've seen something before, but in reality you're seeing it for the first time. Dreams are sometimes fuzzy things in my experience, and it's easy to think you're remembering something you aren't.
In order for me to believe someone had a legitimate prophetic dream, it would have to have some sort of point or purpose. I believe in God, and I don't think God tells people the future for just so they can know whether it will rain or not tomorrow or what kind of soup their friend is going to order at a restaurant. There would have to be larger meaning and significance.
I've had a couple (three) dreams "come true". They were all explainable by the idea that my subconscious mind had been putting things together "behind my back" and had showed them to me in a dream.
So, if that theory is true (and yes, I know three is a pitifully small sample size), the best thing you could do to induce these sort of "prophetic" dreams is to attempt to notice everything around you--the more perceptive you are, the more data your mind has to work with. Learning in general is also a good idea--pick topics you're interested in, of course, or it'll just be boring--so take classes, go to a library, or watch TV shows on what you're interested in (beware, by the time you're at all informed about the topic, these will be too shallow for you to get any new info).
Whether you'll ever experience a "prophetic dream" is uncertain; but of course, becoming more perceptive and learning about the world around you are both ways to enrich your life in general; so even if you try and nothing happens, you won't be sorry you did.
Regarding supernaturally precognitive dreams: Whether they're "sent" by someone, or whether your own mind is producing them, there's no known way to induce them. Your conscious mind isn't the sort of thing that can see into the future anyway. So... don't try. If this happens, it definitely comes to you rather than your asking for it. The only thing you can do is, again, be aware of the world around you.
I am a "newbie." I "Stumbled" upon this web-site, and it caught my attention as I recall my dreams very frequently. This week alone i have recalled three or four dremas every night. I keep a dream journal as best i can. I record as much as I can recall, anything from an image to moments - whole dreams if I can. I have little experience with Lucid dreaming, as I usually wake up and record what I can remember, if I realize that I am dreaming in the first place.
I also have a lot of deja vu. It comes in spurts. I will have multiple deja vus in the span of several days and then none for several months and then maybe one a week for several weeks, etc.
For the past couple of years, though, my moments of deja vu have been getting longer - to the point where I feel like I can recall the experience and even stop it from happening. I alot of times feel that I have dreamt the experience. I downplayed this option in my mind, though, for a long time because I felt the implications could be far-reaching.
But then a couple of months ago, I was having a deja vu: My roommate, her boyfriend and I were painting our apartment, and I could feel it coming on: they soetimes feell ike you are submerging yourslef in water, the way it seems to wash over you - and I saw it all "again." The clothes I was wearing - a men's button up shirt covering up my knees as I sat, the half-painted green wall and the white still showing through, Smythe holding the roller going over a previously painted patch - shirtless, the music playing in the background, the wierd spotlight effect of the work light we were using. And Allison, my roommate said, "Pass the tape, John." And I knew he was going to pass her the wrong one - the masking, instead of the painters, and I watched him do it. All still deja vu. This all happened in seconds really. And I knew Allison was going to say, "Wrong one." And he was going to look around awkwardly for it, to which she would respond "No. It's over there. Never mind - I'll do it." So when Smythe passed the wrong one and Allison said "Wrong one," I knew the sequence of the upcoming actions and words out of her mouth. So I said them with her.
They both paused and looked at me. I had matched her words, her tone, her tempo, etc. Allison said, "Oooh creepy." And that's when the deja vu ended.
What creeped me out though was that i had recorded these moments in my life in my dream journal 1 month and 3 weeks prior, when I had dreamt them.
This is not the first time. But this is the best documented instance.
Sometimes I think I am crazy, but when I have my dream journal to back me up, it's hard to ignore. My hand is shaking now as I write this.
My mother says it happens to her, too.
And the most annoying part in my opinion is that I don't remember the dreams sometimes until the event/deja vu happens. And sometimes the event will deja vu, but the event will have been part of a more complex, abstract dream, so the whole dream couldn't possibly deja vu as it wouldn't fit in with reality as we know it, but this one moment turns out to be real.
It is news to me that this is a controversial phenomenon. I assumed everyone had phad experinces like this, but according to the other postings - maybe not. And I have met people who have never even deja vu'd.
It is something to ponder.
And then if I can impact my dreams with this whole lucid thing, can I change my understanding of events? Do I change my ability to "prophetize"?
Here is a Kinda funny "prophetic" dream. The dream happened when I was living in Las Vegas about three years ago. In the dream I was at my parents house and went into the bathroom and the toilet was gone. This dream happened a couple of times. About a year later I moved back to Oregon and stayed with my parents until I could buy another house. Hannging out at a friends place the urge to go hit me, not wanting to go there (his bathroom is always gross) I rushed back to my parents house and ran to the bathroom I got there the toilet was gone! I just stood there and stared at the spot where the toilet was for like a good minute completely shocked. Then rushed to use the bathroom in my parents room. The next day asked my dad what happened to the toilet, he said his reading glasses fell out of his shirt pocket in to the toilet as he was flushing and got stuck in the "goose neck" part of the toilet. He tried to get them with a hanger but couldn't. Not wanting to plunge them down and clog a pipe under the house he took the entire toilet off brought to the back yard and retrieved his glasses. The funny thing is that he actually still uses those glasses (that's right he is a freak ass). Any who I have not had a toilet dream since. If this was actually "prophetic" I wish it would of been something better like lottery numbers.

deja` vus are very weird at times. It seems as though you are one step behind what is going to happen next.
Something I have learned recently is a link between my Grandma, my mother and my oldest sister.
Because I was too young this was never discussed. Now that they are aware of my interest in dreams the story came out.
They all claimed at some point having a prophetic dream. They did not keep records of the events. It freaked all of them out. I don't believe they have any reason to lie. But I am not sure there is not another explanation too.
The interesting part is that my mother passed away and since then my grandma nor my sister has had one since 1995.
My mother is very superstitious as well as pagan, and she believes very much that not only can dreams be considered clues to who we really are, but that they can even be benchmarks, informing you that you are on the right path. She believes that when she dreams something, and it comes true that this means she is on the right path in life because her reality is matching her psyche.
Whether this is true or not? Well - to each their own.
But she has many stories of prophetic experiences regarding her dreams foreshadowing deaths, births, or accidents within the family. She says that every time she has been pregnant, her dreams knew it before she did. And there have been times where something has happened to me 6 hours away and she has called saying that she dreamt that I needed help. She says extreme prophesies only happen to her dreamscape when blood family is involved, thus solidifying her belief that their is a bond between us beyond the genetic.
wow, I completely agree with you, and I have had experiences like that one allot. So I could say I am a firmly beleiver in profetic dreams. I have had so many and about stupid things always. I always get started with a deja vu feeling and having the dream again after it happens like a week later, thats when I remembered I had the dream before, its really amazing and it makes you wonder like hell about life. I don't really knows what ticks this off but I think its fine the way it is, there would not be any mystery in dreaming everything that is going to happen.Quote:

I too have had dreams that i then step into the realilty of......... which is amazing and surreal expirance. I am always open about it too..... so I just tell people around me at the time :-P inquistive i suppose, which can be extreme....
One time i was in the desert in oz travelling on a friends bus(in real life) and people where walking up to the bus from this party where we had pulled up...... as they were getting on the bus some of them where telling us that they had dreamt of the bus before!!!!!!! it happened that many times that myself, Mick and Scotty where reacting very casually saying "oh yes, alot of people have dreamt of this bus come on board lets ee if we can find out what its all about?!?!". then I remember walking around the back of the bus laughing with the guys nervously about how amazing the whole expirance was....
it spins me out just thinking of it again.......... Nothing on that level has ever happened to me before or since, but strangly enough i miss it. Made me feel like I was on a amazing and prehaps the right path............
