      Dream mirrors are priceless

Last night, while lucid, I looked at myself in a mirror. I love to do this, because I never know in advance which face will be looking back at me. Only rarely has it been my own recognizable self.

This time I was greeted by a huge, grotesquely deformed head - three times as wide, and twice as high, as a normal human head. Apart from that size distortion, it had more or less the features of an Australian aboriginal face (in physical reality I'm a typical nordic type with no trace of Australian blood, as far as I know ). I had to laugh out loud in the dream, and the giant, cartoonishly distorted face grinned right back at me. Priceless!

I encourage everybody to seek out mirrors in dreams.
So ... is this the real universe, or is it just a preliminary study?

That sounds fascinating and very entertaining! I enjoyed reading your experience. I'll keep that in mind for when I am able to better stabilize my lucids. I use mirrors as an RC sometimes so hopefully it will happen in a lucid eventually. I wonder something similar occurs when most look into mirrors in their LDs.

Most of my LD's start in my apartment and unless I use a painting portal or jump out the livingroom window, I pass by a mirror wardrobe on my way out the door. I'm often a bit groggy at the start of my dreams, but I will be paying more attention to it from now on! I will also be interested in using the mirror as a portal... havent tried that.

Painting portals are the best. The paintings in my apartment are never the same twice. I very much enjoy looking at some of the stunning designs my subconscious creates. I often "refresh" them till they represent a location I would like to visit and then jump in.

About two or three years ago I had a lucid dream involving a mirror of sorts. I had a false awakening in my apartment and quickly became lucid. Jumping out of bed, I walked over to my door which was more like the front door of a house as the center of it was reflective glass. I saw myself in the reflection and said "Bring me the ghost." Which was in reference to the previous dream I had that night - (I was surrounded by fog at a playground and was chased/chasing some shadowy figure).

My reflection solemnly replied, "Yes master" and walked into the next room, the bathroom, on the other side of the door. I could see light bleeding from underneath the door as I approached and pushed it open. I could see something behind the shower curtain... I whipped it back to reveal a very tall suit of armor with a deformed fetus head on top in place of the helmet. It was difficult to look at, but I wasn't afraid; I didn't sense any kind of malice coming from it. I can't remember the conversation, but we talked for a little bit before the dream faded and I woke.

      Mirrors are VERY interesting.

Now I want to talk to my reflection. That could be very interesting. SO symbolic haha.
Edit: I decided I'll try and get that done tonight, though I'm a bit out of sync... I'll try a WILD... Will report back.

I like the idea you described of using paintings as portals. I have quite a few in the apartment I'm living in, so I plan to try that out when the time is right.

And yeah, please do report back! That will be an interesting account to read.

I do enjoy mirrors. They are very good for playing with transforming your features. You of course could simply see yourself from an outside prespective and change things, but the mirror makes it more like you are in the experience 1st person style.

That's a great idea! I've been intending to experiment with animal forms. I did a dog, recently when my old dog dropped by, and I decided it would be fun if we were both dogs... it was challenging because of the knees bending forwards, but it worked. Never thought of using a mirror. So much mirror potential

Ok! So after an exceptionally dry lucid 2019 I finally got around to do the mirror thing.

I walked past the mirror in my apartment almost at the beginning of the dream, so it was not completely stable yet. I remembered that I was intending to experiment with mirrors but to my surprise found that I could not see the face of my reflection. From the nose and up it turned into a black cloud and I found that the dream turned unstable if I forced looking at the cloud. I took some time and worked around it and could soon interact with my dream reflection.

I stared into my eyes and it felt like some positive communication was taking place without words. Then I voluntarily allowed everything to disintegrate as it seemed that was the natural next step. I was sucked in a strange way into the mirror. Everything went black and white as if I was in a paralell universe without color.
I enjoyed this for a little bit, then had a false awakening, still everything was black and white. I caught the false awakening immediately.

It felt very different than the first dream, and I sensed danger. I felt I was in a new environment that would be different from my usual lucid dreams.
Something small like a cat was gnawing on my feet, but it was too dark to see so I just petted it and moved on. I did a realitycheck by sticking my hand through the mirror. And then looked at my reflection again. The same type of communication took place, and then the same type of transition and I was back in my colored dreamworld.

The rest of the dream was not mirror related.

I intend to continue playing with mirrors and hopefully also return to the black and white world. I'll report back with anything I find interesting

Now isn't that interesting; a two-way portal inside the dream world, with the second world having a different "feel" from the first one. I must try making that kind of eye contact with myself inside a dream soon (haven't seen a dream mirror for quite a while though).

Wasn't that one of the task of the months, one year, sivason?
Anyways, lately, my mirror images have been a bit on the gory side...

I know one of them was to use a mirror as a portal. I did that one.

FYI you can use any reflective surface including water, pretty much anything flat and shiny. I still recall my first time from decades ago when I accidentally saw myself in the glass of a pinball machine. Yes, I did just say pinball machine. Yikes, even my dreaming dates me.
