I'd say that most of my dreams are in a 3rd person point of view or top down. I dont know how to describe it. It's almost like watching a movie.
Thing is, I don't know how or if I can become lucid from this. If so how does one think I might do that? Or should I just stop having dreams in a different pov? It would be a really great dream sign if I learn how to use it.
Would it be good to just keep them and try to become more self aware through my meditation and such?
To become lucid from a 3rd person point of view during a dream, you would notice the third-person point of view during the dream, recognize it as a dream sign, and realize you're dreaming. This is possible, but I'm not sure how easy it is to do.
The pronouns "he" "she" "it" and "they" represent the third-person point of view, so I imagine noticing thoughts of these pronouns during a dream is a way of noticing the third-person point of view during a dream.
I would try using the thought of the words "he" "she" "it" or "they" as a dream sign. Self-awareness will come in handy in noticing thoughts including these words, so it would be good to try to become more self-aware through meditation and such.
Thanks for advice! I'll think on it. Most likely I'll end up not using at as a dream sign, since it doesn't sound very efficient to me. But that's just me.Quote:

I don't know. Perhaps, you can try to center yourself. I mean probably use another kind of RC, like on your hands. Once your question that you are dreaming, study your hands, concentrate on that, it may take some work and don't worry about what is going on around you but, it may help bring you to the 1st person point of view and lucid, I think??
Example: if your hands are let say, "Distorted" it may help you give you a little nudge. ;)
Meditation may help too but, you can also, start practice All day awareness so you can be ready to question that you are dreaming. I've never have had this issue before but, I think that may help you?
I know, I know that's like perfectly not confusing. *roll eyes* :P
Hmm, I'm slightly confused by this post, but I get what you're implying. You're assuming I'm already lucid and I can't get into third person am I correct? It's not that, its I dont know how to use this to become lucid. I do, do the hand RC though.Quote:

I find myself in the 3rd person and 1st person quite often. I don't know of any real surefire way to do an RC that can help you. For me, after having become lucid so often, there are these thought patterns that just manifest in my dreams and I realize I'm lucid. I wish I could be of more help, but my suggestion would be to try something IRL that makes you more aware of your thoughts, perhaps some kind of all-day awareness and Meditation. Then, you might eventually catch yourself in your dreams having certain thoughts that you mainly think about in your dreams, and you may find yourself becoming lucid.
Here is a thought: Since everything in a dream, be it lucid or not, comes ultimately from you, it is literally, impossible to dream in the third person. However, it isn't that difficult to separate your lucid "presence" from your dream character "you" and get the impression that you're dreaming in third-person.
In other words, you're not dreaming in the third person, you're just watching your DC do stuff from a different perspective. If you keep that in mind it shouldn't be hard to change your perspective.
Okay, let me ask you this, was anything that you were watching in the dream that seemed distorted? You said that you were looking at the 3rd person point of view or top-down point of view, in your dream, yes? You can use that as an RC. Every time, you see a dream in that angle, you can remember that you are dreaming.
Sorry, I am slightly under the weather at the moment, please excuse, my internet rambling.
When I first began this journey (not so long ago) I realized that to have a first person lucid experience I needed to have a first person perspective. I got into SSILD very early and the third cycle where body awareness comes in always felt important....so I always spent a little extra time there.
In one of my first lucid dreams I flew over a stream at the edge of a pasture. It was as if I was a hawk. I was high up and there was a person standing in that stream far below me. I flew down and became that person. The very next night I entered the very same dream....only this time there was nobody in the stream. I flew down as me and entered into a wonderful lucid experience.
I feel as though I established my dream body then and all of my dreams since have been first person. I continue to do a lot of body awareness work at night during my LD practice. I feel as though it is important for me to strengthen that connection between my dream body and my real body.

I don't know if this has already been said, LdForMe, and I'm way too lazy to check, but you might want to incorporate RC's into the many times you experience a third-person perspective in waking-life. Since this experience probably happens more often than you might think, you might get lots of chances to RC, and create a usable dream sign that just might follow you into your dreams.
We find ourselves in third-person perspective a lot, if you think about it, and not just while watching TV or movies. Playing video games (even, ironically, "first-person shooters,"), surfing the net, even participating in social media can be considered third-person-perspective activities, because the "you" that is operating the equipment is in a separate place -- a separate world, in a sense - than the stuff you're looking at. If you are not participating in a conversation that is going on nearby but can clearly hear it, your perspective, while listening, is third person. If you are a passenger riding in a car or bus, you are effectively in third-person mode because the vehicle and its driver are operating independently of your input or observation.
I could go on, because there are plenty more moments in waking life where you are using 3rd-person-perspective, or feel like you might as well be (like that conversation you just got left out of ;)). When these moments occur, do a RC. In time you might be able to convert the perspective itself into a dreamsign so, when you are dreaming in the 3rd, you will be reminded to do a RC and get lucid.
For me, sometimes I would become lucid from literally being someone else or seeing my clone and stuff. Or those times when I became lucid because of height distorted perception and disorientation. This is when in a dream where I see people or object that are bigger or small that than I am. Then I use that for becoming lucid if that is not the main task. I mean, if I can notice that something because I'm a giant looking down and seeing people in that way, I'm sure you can somehow do the same, right with using 3rd-person-perspective in the way you are?
Yeah, I have been doing that since I've been small, I mean, since I been younger.

I think that is a very important observation. I'm thinking that metacognition....being aware of our thought process.....is a pretty good pathway to being aware that we are dreaming.Quote:

I have been inactive for a while as I have been focused on myself. I have continued my meditation after a short hiatus and I have been setting my intentions to have realistic dreams that aren't movie like, and I have successfully done it. I have had very few movie like dreams these last few months.
And I've also learned to appreciate these movie like dreams. It's quite nice not have any active participation every once in awhile.
