As for me....No.
I hear about it all the time at DV, but i have never experinced it.
Yeah, all the time. Almost everybody does. Everybody except sleepwalkers that is. I've never been conscious of it, but I always wake up in the same place I went to sleep, so logically I must have had sleep paralysis the whole time.
Yes, I have gotten sleep paralysis. It never happened until I started lucid dreaming though. It was pretty scary the first time. Loud static noises, strange illusions and such.
It is very scary. The first time it happened to me I realized I was conscious but my whole body was paralyzed. I could not move, talk, scream, open my eyes. The only thing I could use to snap out of it was try thinking and the harder I thought about waking up the easier it became for me to move my arm and before I knew it I was no longer paralyzed. Its very scary though. Ive done it twice the first time it was pretty short. The second time I fell asleep had a quick dream and remember waking up at 11:00 in the afternoon, then I got into sleep paralysis (were i couldn't move anything) and then I remember trying to move I remember my right eye opened for like a second and then I was paralyzed again. Then I just thought about waking up and I woke up first thing i did was look at the clock it was 9:00 in the morning. Which seemed really strange because when I looked at the clock in the previous episode the same day and it was 11:00.
I didn't see anything or have any hallucinations. Although I did hear that unearthly static sound. I couldn't move anything either. All I knew was I was conscious but unable to preform physical movements.
Everyone experiences this, whether they know it or not.....It's a normal part of sleep. It happens when you go to sleep. Don't worry about it; it can't hurt you..

Anyway, I have found myself in sleep paralysis while conscious. I experienced the hallmark pressure on my chest, and presence of an entity in the room. It was scary at the time, but I had read about conscious sleep paralysis beforehand which helped to soften the blow.Quote:

I have, only once though, and before I started LDing. I woke up, but with my eyes still closed. I tried to move my arm and with all the effort I could muster I could only get it to move about half a centimetre. Trying to move it made it feel like it was going to explode because of a feeling of geat energy inside it. Then in an instant I had full mobility again with no hinderences or lingering effects.
Even if I was able to move a limb I wouldn't know it because I couldn't not feel anything I couldn't even hear or see anything either exsept for a static noise (I assume the noise were alpha brain waves)

Sleep paralysis would actually be a mistake if you consider it's role.
SP is your brain's way of turning of your motor skills while you dream. In effect you won't go kicking and punching while you are in a REM state.
But you are not in any type of paralysis that I know of when you are just asleep.
When one becomes conscious of this it is just a delayed reaction on your minds part to send the signal to end the paralysis.
I've had it a couple of times recently. It's worst when it's in darkness bacause I will usually hear people who I know (like my family) in the room saying really fucked up random things.
Yeah...in fact, I did alot when I was 3, b/c I never slept for long amounts of time at a time. It never frightened me at all though, as I would just wait, & WILD. Now I can either WILD, or just goof off w/Cody :D!
It happened fairly often as a teen but not so much now.
I have never woken up and found myself still in SP. I'd like to just to see what it's like, but alas, my body won't cooperate.
There was one time where I woke up and couldn't use one of my arms. I think it was because I'd been sleeping on it and there hadn't been enough blood flow to wake it up. It was an interesting experience, though. Took about 5 minutes before I could move my hand consciously.
I've experienced it a few times. I think it's a pretty neat feeling. Guess I'm in the minority. Actually last time it happened I wanted to laugh for some reason.
I voted "yes"; but I'm not sure whether that's so. All I remember from the times I've had what might be SP is lying in bed after awakening and being aware of not being able to move; but I wasn't afraid--I just realized my body was still asleep. It never took more than a few seconds to fade; and when you've just woken up you don't want to move right away anyhow.
Is that SP? Or just a weird way of waking up?
I remember my first sleep paralysis. I was about thirteen. Scared the bejeebers outta me. I couldn't move but very little and that was only with great force. I tried to scream, but nothing but a very quiet raspy sound would come out. Happened quite often then kinda died down to once in a great while. When I started lucid dreaming, it brought it back with a vengeance. It scared me it happened so much, I stopped lucid dreaming for a couple months. Now that I have read up on it more, I am less scared about it and miss the fun I had. I have been working to start back up on lucid dreaming.
I have had it most of my life. It was really scary until i figures out what it was. Use to have living living nightmares because of them.
Hmmm, I can only recall one instance where I was concious and experienced SP.
I was having trouble sleeping, and tried a sleep hypnosis tape. I didn't fall asleep ( and never did using that tape) but couldn't move for like 5 minutes.
I had it once, just recently. I was trying to LD...
I've experienced sleep paralysis many many times. It can be freaky and frustrating, but I'm so used to it now that I know I must focus hard on waking up to release myself from my frozen state. It usually happens when I am napping, or concious of the fact that I only have a short time to sleep. The trippy part is that I can usually see and I can definately hear my surroundings while I"m paralyzed. -caught in between the realm of dreaming, and the realm of being awake. I am concious of the fact that my eyes and ears work...and I can look around the room. I often wonder while I"m stuck in paralysis if someone will walk in on me, and find me in this frantic state, eyes moving wildly but body paralyzed. I would look completely possessed....or would I? Are my eyes really open? A long time ago I started napping with the light on in case of this...so I could really examine my surroundings while asleep. Can anyone relate?
