Ok this just makes me mad...

I told my family and some of my friends about lucid dreaming and none of them cared about it and my mom doesn't even believe it's possible to do. This makes me mad because how can you refuse to have the ability to control your dreams? That's like refusing to have your wishes granted (well almost like it).

I have been there 7catac7. I do know exactly what you mean.
This will not be the first time you run in to this closed mindset. But you just have to realize some people are just not ready to hear such a notion.
But you will find joy when you find someone who opens their ears to your discovery.
      So keep your chin up!!!

I honestly don't see how people think this is impossible. Its not like your APing or anything your just thinking to you self to the point were you can influence your own dream. Its not rocket science just a little bit of concentration and imagination.

Well, there are people out there who do not believe, or are uncomfortable with anything they do not understand. Just keep your focus on LDing and don't let it bother you. This happens often in life. You know what is true, so don't worry about the disbelief of others.

Aw, I feel for you man =/ I suposse the topic coudl seem new age-ish to some clsoed minded people. YOu could show them the scientific papers on them and tlel them that it is accepted by the scientific community. And if they still continue to stay ignorant, its thier fault and loss.-

If I understand correcly, most people do not have LD's. Myself I have met people that don't even know that they dream because they never remember having dreamt.

I believe it is also a matter of how you present it.

If you were to go and just talk about what can be accomplished with lucidity then it may very well be looked at as many other concepts that are rare to be believe such as magic and what not but if you go about explaining it (from the very introduction, a second time won't convince anyone) in a way that one can't deny, for example, with scientific proof and reasoning, take LaBerge's work.

Or even without specific examples! If you introduce the concept as something proven and real instead of something "amazing and fantastic", something close to the "unreal" then people are bound to not believe you simply because they're not completely objective, it's by far not easy to be objective on the most part and I haven't seen a single person that's completely objective, that would mean having an extremely different approach to everyday life.

So all together saying "Hey, ever heard of lucid dreaming? It's so awesome and you can do whatever you want!" might not get as many positive responses as:

      - "Hey, you should try lucid dreaming. Controling your dreams can be great fun."
      - "Whaaa? That's just bogus."
      - "Huh? What are you talking about? It's a proven scientific fact. Saying that lucid dreaming is bogus is like me telling you 'What?? We see with our eyes?! That's bogus!'"

Hmm, longer post than I expected and probably repeats the same thing over and over: confidence and firm knowledge in the introduction to any concept is better than just an introduction to the concept itself without elaboration.

i think we all know this feeling. i have experienced many ignorant and closed minded people. some people just won't accept things they don't understand. it's pretty sad actually. it gets frustrating trying to open their eyes to things, or even talking to them for that matter. just be glad that you know and understand lucid dreaming, because that's all that matters.

My friends are the same way--they usually say things like, "What's the point?" or "Dreams are boring" or "I never dream." Weird looks are common, too.

I did have one comment about me being a "dreamwalker", which is a reference to the Wheel of Time series, in which some of the characters have the power to enter the (real) world of dreams. Then another friend joked about me entering one of his dreams and going insane... at which point there was laughter and a subject change, and frustration on my part.

(I don't think I'd go insane. I've had some pretty weird dreams.)

I love my friends... I do... but they will never understand just how much fun it is to use dream-telekinesis... or create items from thin air... or fly... or... well, just about anything.

That sucks man, I told some of my friends and a couple started to keep dream journals. So if your looking for somebody to share your experiences person to person just keeping sharing with select people that you feel that they have open minds and you'll find some.
