      New Year dream goals 2022

So the new year has begun. Thought it could be fun to share our dream goals for the year ahead and check back again in December to see if we’ve achieved them. Feel free to update the thread with any progress as the year goes on.

      Mine are:

      1. Have a lucid dream in outer space
      2. Have 20 lucid dreams in 1 month
      3. Master changing the dream location
      4. Tackle a recurring nightmare
      5. Complete this years TOTY

      Hi Tiktaalik! My goals are:

      1. Move from 2 LDs per week to 3-4.
      2. Get better at dream control.
      3. Get significantly better at various versions of WILD.
      4. Have some long (over 10 minutes) LDs with a good story. Also to get stories into my LDs.
      5. Have more of the mind-blowing outliers like that 20-25m long lucid I had in September.
      6. Have some memorable and really good non-lucids. The type that force you to think about it for days.
      7. Revisit one of my previous dreams and reconnect with the main character of that dream. This could even lead to a PR based on that world.
      8. More exploring of my dreamscape, meeting again and getting to know better some of my hopefully recurring characters.

Great list, I have many of these on mine as well but class them as “long-term” goals that may take a while to achieve.

I too am looking to increase the “story” element to my dreams, with continuous themes, characters and locations. I haven’t quite decided how I’m going to do it yet. I was thinking of maybe asking a dream guide or the dream what I should pursue to kick things off and then follow that plot thread as far as it takes me, hopefully spanning many lucid dreams.

How do you plan to tackle it?

Yeah, "getting better at dream control" is like that. The goal about WILD, I put it there on purpose because I am focusing on it a lot right now.

I've had some success with doing it for single dreams, but my LDing frequency and control still aren't good enough to allow me to easily continue with them.
For more long-term story elements, I prefer to explore my dream world and discover them rather than create them. So I've been looking for interesting DCs and places in my dreams and looking for connections. Sometimes, things are open for interpretation, so I can think about the dreams as connected and make up the stuff to fill the gaps.
I take notes about interesting characters and places and want to draw something like tarot cards for them. This is my way of doing something like dream cartography. Non-lucid dreams for this have the same importance as lucids so it is also a motivation for improving my recall and experimenting with incubation. I also assume that persistent DCs have their own will. If I send them a message in a daydream that I want to see them (or if I try to summon them in a LD) and they don't show, I don't treat it as incubation/dream control fail but maybe they didn't get the message or they couldn't or didn't want to come. It's all suspension of disbelief stuff, treating dreams like another world(s).

What I would really like to do this year (outside of visiting Mars and a giant mushroom forest) is to practice dream re-entry. It's a tricky skill, but some dreams are so beautiful and real, you just want to go back there. My favorite is one where I have my own cottage in the middle of a shallow ocean. I want to go back there.

      Interesting goals.

      For me they will be:
      1. Create a light source and go to the bottom of the mariana trench
      2. Dream within a dream
      3. Shrink
      4. Fold buildings onto one another
      5. Meet robert monroe

Ooo, I like this one. This would make an excellent suggestion for the TotM thread. One addendum. When you're down there, turn the light off.

      TotM Thread?

Interesting, I could do that too. It's interesting, I've managed, to create a portal to the year 10,000, teleport to the sun, shapeshift into a dragon. But I keep having trouble with the mariana trench one D:

I’m going for a similar approach as well. I don’t want to force anything and just let the dream lead the way. In the past I’ve just looked around for something that takes my interest. It could be a person, a place or an object. The dream usually does the rest and creates a plot around what I’m focusing on.

I accept that every dream is going to stand on its own and be very different so things like the location and dream plot won’t have much continuity across multiple dreams. This is why lucidity may be required to stop whatever plot I find myself in and re-direct it back in the direction the I need it to go. For example, my suggestion of a “Build your own TOTY” where 1 lucid task leads into the next lucid dream and then into the next is a good way to keep an ongoing plot across multiple dreams that wouldn’t usually be connected in anyway.

I agree about the suspension of disbelief. I don’t believe there are other entities living inside my head who I can communicate with but playing along with the idea makes for a more fulfilling and interesting experience. I like the idea of talking with these characters during waking as if sending them messages. I did this early on with my unconscious who I’ve had a few interesting conversations with in dreams.

Yeah, dream re-entry is still a tricky one for me as well and I’d like to get better at it. I like the sound of your ocean cottage. I love when you find a brand new location in a dream and feel an instant connection with it.
