      Dream Guides

I'm a little confused about the idea of a dream guide. I understand that it's a person that appears regularly in your lucid (non lucid as well?) dreams, and 'guides' you, as it were.
But how does one obtain a dream guide? Do you get to choose who they are, what they look like? How do you know who your dream guide is?
      Thank you,
      Theresa

Wow, its been a while since I've seen dream guides discussed much on this forum. I'll give you my version of things, as well as I can remember them.

A dream guide doesn't necessarily appear regularly in your lucid dreams. I've never met mine, though I've been lucid dreaming for about 6 months now. They can appear in non-lucid dreams, as well, and some people say they have felt something guiding them towards lucidity - probably their dream guide. To meet your dream guide, I think the best way to go about things is to simply call out in your dream, "I want to meet my dream guide!" With any luck, they will appear, though they may decide not to. If someone does show up, it doesn't necessarrily mean that they are your DG. People have often encountered dream characters masquerading as dreamguides, to mixed results.

From what I understand, you cannot choose a dreamguide. They will come to you, with a specific appearance, mannerisms, etc. Most often, it seems the DG is someone about the same age of the dreamer, and the dreamer is often drawn to them, like there's some sort of connection.

I've heard some people say that DGs are conscious beings external to ourselves - spirits, if you will. Others have said that they're a part of our mind, usually the higher mind. People have also had manifestations of their subconsciousness appear in their dreams, decidedly different characters from dreamguides. Having not met my dreamguide, I have yet to form an opinion on which theory is true. Whichever you believe, good luck with meeting your dream guide!
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

I've never had a dream guide, but have always assumed that a dream guide would be a manifestation of your subconcious? Meeting my dreamguide / subconcious would be incredible, and it is something I have wanted to do for some months now. It's not usually an issue of failure to do so (this has only happened once) but forgetting that I wanted to do it and becoming distracted by other things in the dream. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult if only one remembers when lucid.
