Okay, so I got a lot of answers to my question about the affects of drugs on lucid dreaming. I keep hearing that Salvia helps in attaining these dreams. I've only tried Salvia 3 times but everytime I do it, it only lasts for a few minutes at most. If this is the case, then how is it possible to have lucid dreams in such a short time span?
It's not possible. Salvia only lasts a few minutes, in large doses it can cause ego dissolution and all that, whick might be comparable to an OBE or something of the like but it's definately not lucid dreaming. Any effects it has on dreaming would have to be post-trip residual effects, if there are any at all.
I think you're supposed to chew a ball of leaves or something. Some other method than smoking, because it's metabolized very quickly.
yes, i would advise chewing leaves, instead of smoking it to allow a bigger window of opportunity.
i have a good friend, who i trust with my life, relate experiences he's had after smoking salvia that subjectively lasted years.
and personally, one time i've smoked it, and been in a whole other state of reality for 40 objective minutes. it was actually one of the most bizarre experiences i've ever had in my life, which i'll gladly share if anyone is interested...
The residuals help. It helps a lot just in getting the feel for an OBE. Ive used it in the past, smoking it before going to sleep, which makes sleeping a lot easier also. Salvia always put me to sleep after. Youre not supposed to have a lucid dream while on it. Besides, being on it is kind of like having a lucid dream. More like having an aliens lucid dream, but stil in the same family.
Salvia is probably the only mind altering drug that I think might possibly help someone. I am still cautious in promoting it, but its the only mind altering drug ive taken that does not leave me wanting more, puts my mind back together when its finished, and isnt even really "fun". It can actually be quite scary. I cannot say the same of mushrooms and weed.The experiences ive had with it are more like big "wake up"s. Ripping me out of my little box and then, the best part, putting me back in.
Well, I digress. I dont think salvia helps lucid dreaming that much, and I think lucid dreaming in itself is the greates trip of all. I think theres too many people looking for shortcuts and placebo's.
well, it depends on the person. for me, even just weed gives me mental clarity and better intuition. you're right about salvia being an eye-opener. more intense trips can be life-changing.Quote:

And what was already said. YOu don't lucid dream while on this psychedelic herb you just reach a different plain of consciousness. Much like any hallucinogenic drug.
It may help you to understand the concept of the realm of lucid dreaming, but I don't feel it will aid in your efforts to LD.

i have never tried chewing leaves, so i can't say anything about that. i have, however, smoked it a few times, and all i can really say is HOLY HELL! i've had some weird experiences on salvia (PM me if you want details). none that were particularly scary, but i could see how it could easily go that way (possibly more easily than, say, shrooms).
i disagree with this for a couple of reasons - first, i think other mind-altering drugs CAN be helpful. for instance, medical marijuana. of course, i think gameover means mentally, so medical MJ might not count, but still, i think MJ can be very useful for creativity and, like djalo says, clarity and intuition. another example would be using MDMA for PTSD (that's ecstasy for post-traumatic stress disorder, for those of you who aren't into acronyms). i know they've done some testing with this and it looks very promising. the other reason would be that i don't know that salvia is always helpful. sometimes it definitely can be, but other times, i don't think so. i wouldn't say it's harmful, just neutral.Quote:

but back to the original topic. i would say that if salvia has any effect on lucid dreaming at all, you'd probably be better off chewing than smoking. it comes on a lot slower, is less intense, and lasts a lot longer (according to various trip reports i've read. as i said, i've never chewed it - just smoked).
I used to think that a lot of different mind altering substances were helpfull. Years later, I can honestly say the ony one that didnt mess me up to some degree was salvia.
Mushrooms made me slightly insane. The problem with them is I never really "come back". The most intense part, of course, goes away, but it changes my mind permanently. At first i thought this was good but its proved to make my life very hard. I think theres a reason we dont see certain things and theyre best left alone.
Weed I struggled to think of one reason not to smoke it until recently. The schizophrenia just builds and builds and builds. In moderation I dont think its evil, like drinking isnt evil, but its not good by any means. Of course Im only talking in relation to my life. I know everyone is completely different.
Salvia on the other hand, is the one drug that does the best job of putting me back together after.(and also the best part of tearing me apart). It just leaves me with the pleasant reminder that theres so much more to life than this.

The funny thing with salvia is that, unlike other chemicals, which have different reactions on different individuals, all salvia users go through exactly the same experience!
I quite my "experimentation" with chemicals a couple of years ago. i noticed weed started to mess me up ones i started using other drugs (shrooms, xtc etc) -even though i only used those ones a month max. has to do with neurological changes. won't go into it, but it's a bad combination. it gave me a distant feeling that thankfully went away again. that's basically what's keeping me from smoking up again. don't want it to come back.
I learned alot from chemicals. due to the different perspectives they give, i gainded alot of insight in the world and in myself. but i'm glad i stopped. by loosing ignorance (among other things), mind altering drugs make it hard to operate efficiently in the society we live in today. i have chosen for the last. finishing off my last year of uni now.
in any case, salvia is the one thing i would love to try again. that and going to south usa to eat peyote with a bunch of native indians in the desert. :D
interesting article. Though Im always sceptical of marijuana studies since they all contradict each other, this one seems to be testing something that hasnt been tested before. But regardless what any studies show I know from experience that pot can be a catalyst for shizophrenia. Ive only stopped smoking for four months now and luckily the effects do seem to be going away. One reason I had no problems with smoking in the past is that there is lots of evidence that all effects of cannibus go away within a year, which I do believe ,from seeing people who have quit. But saying that, you do actually have to stop for the negative effects to go. I wonder if the problem wouldnt be much less if all the weed wasnt so potent like its become.

I didnt see anything or have any crazy experiences from smokin salvia. The only effect it had on me was the feeling that i had like a huge magnet on my back and that i was getting pulled down into another magnet.
from what i've read, there are about 6 different "levels" of a salvia experience. i have experienced up to about level 3 or so. sounds like you were just at level 1 or 2, and your friend was probably at 3 or 4. level 5 would be like an OBE, except that you not only leave your body, you leave this whole realm of existence. traveling through space and time, meeting aliens/machine elves/whatever you want to call them, basically leaving everything you ever thought you knew about the world behind, would be level 5. level 6 you don't even want to experience, because the main identifying characteristic of a level 6 trip is that, when you "wake up" out of it, you don't remember anything at all about your experience. that doesn't sound too interesting . . .Quote:

so if you smoke more, maybe you can get to a higher level. also, i know you can purchase salvia leaves that have been soaked in an extract of the active chemical, which makes it stronger. i think you can get 5X, 10X, or 20X. if you tried some of this, you might get higher also.
powerful salvia is fucking intense. you can't describe it because it's beyond the imagination.

It's funny how I feel like a criminal when I admit to smoking it when it's perfectly legal here in my state. It shows how brainwashed I am at times. :) I had a life altering experience with my one and only Salvia trip; to put it bluntly, I was so grateful for reality when I came back. I even hugged my door for being a door. (if you've never done salvia, this may not make sense.) Anyhow I'd love to experience something similar in the lucid world only this time I'd love to have control over it as opposed to feeling like I"m on a carnival ride. :) Is this a lofty dream? Thanks!
DONT DO SALVIA (period). You don't know what your getting yourself into. I tried it and I was blown out of my mind and thought I would never get out of the bizarre mind loop it throws you in. After smoking your mind becomes an kaleidoscope of strikingly bizarre realities that layer and layer and you feel like you will never come back to the "real life" as you once new it and loved. Once you hit salvia you never really come back. It's much worse than acid and you might just want to commit suicide.
Salvia will make you delusional for weeks and even months after you do it.
