Had some WILDs this morning

I had a few consecutive WILDs (Wake-Initiated Lucid Dream) this morning which were fairly hazy. I was lying in bed with my eyes closed at first and could hear a TV playing, people talking around me (some were even talking to me--"David, what do you think of this... David, are you awake?"), it was kind of funny because I knew I was asleep and in my room with the door locked.

During this, every few seconds or so I’d hear a “voooophm” (say this in half a second to get an accurate idea of the sound) sort of noise which came from my head, and went away when I decided to try and “open my dream eyes.” At this point I'd be in some scene for a minute or so, then it faded and I was looking at patterns of dim light again, until I opened my dream eyes and entered another dream. I did this a couple times, and I always heard the same "voooophm” sound when I was in the stage of hearing talking but keeping my eyes closed.

Anyone else experience this specific noise?

I find it is quite easy to keep a conscious mind and get through the transition phase when focussing on the “voooophm” sound that comes from my head. Focussing on the center of my brain seems to trigger this sound faster and I can slip into a lucid dream, skipping "vibrations."

Congrats on the WILD's dearly! I've had since joining DV 3 near-WILD's, all in the same night, but after that never again. I heared the “voooophm” sound several times, followed by the vibrations. I didn't get to the dream part; hence the term 'near-WILD'.

You can recreate this "voooophm" while awake. Yawning or squeezing your eyelids together might help to achieve this. That night was the very first time I heared the "voooophm" involuntarily.

Wow. I don't think I have ever heard it while "awake." Is there a name for it? Any idea what is causing the sound?

Would you agree if I say that the "voooophm" kind of sounds like water running through your ears?

Well, I hear the quiet water-flow sound when I close my eyes together tightly as you described. It's not very audible and it lasts about a second, then I have to wait about a minute before I close my eyes again to hear it. Is this what you are describing?

The "voooophm" that I hear while in transition sounds different though. It's just like if you were to say "voooophm" in a mild tone in half a second. You should be able to emulate the sound confortably by voice. It's quite audible. I can't think of anything to compare it to.

I had another WILD this morning by focusing on the "voooophm's." This time, instead of opening my dream eyes when it felt right, I decided to sit up using my dream body while keeping my eyes closed. I could feel my body sitting up just as I would in waking life but without any effort, and I never saw anything or felt anything unusual. I lid down again.

In the second WILD I had immediately after, I decided to open my dream eyes and I was in my room. I quickly jumped out of bed and went over to the mirror to look at myself as I planned to do in my next lucid dream. I tried to look at my eyes but I had trouble keeping them widely open (they felt really dry). The dream then faded.

All my WILDs basically go like this:

I'm lying in bed. I get a quick cold-shiver type of feeling all over my body. I feel like I'm sinking down in my bed a bit. I might see some dim patterns of light. I get a second cold-shiver type of feeling all over my body. Now is usually when I start to hear the "voooophm's" and other sounds (usually people having coversations that I recognize by voice). After hearing this for about 30 seconds I can usually move my dream body or open my dream eyes and be in a scene. The dreams are not very vivid however, and I'm not thinking totally logical, but I am lucid.

The entire process from being awake to being in a lucid dream seems to only take a couple of minutes.

I read about people experiencing "vibrations" and different sensations pre-WILD. Any tips for how I could experience this?

As for the vibrating, I kind of 'got stuck' in that stage. I kept on shaking until I slipped back to being fully awake. I did hear the water through the ear sound, but not the "voooophm" as you described it, I think... I never got to the actual hypnogogic images or sounds either, let alone dreaming.

So I'm quite the beginner when it comes to WILDing.

The vibrations that night were such a great experience; It really got me hooked on LDing. I remember that I felt more relaxed than I've ever been before. That's when the vibrations commenced. Perhaps you have the ability to rush through the first WILD stages and that you experience your vibrating stage as a quick cold-shiver. But that's just a wild guess.

We need more WILD experienced people in this thread!

I was reading DistantClone's dream journal, and he described a sound he heared in a dream--light-saber swing from the Star Wars movies--which reminded me of my \"voooophm\" sound, and I realized that is a really good example of what it sounds like. Voooophm. :)

Wow. I don't see any hypnogogic images before entering the WILD and the only sensation I experience is the cold-shiver feeling, but I wouldn't call that vibration.

I suppose. My experience is not much like what I read in WILD documentations which describe it step-by-step, and it does seem as if I’m skipping some steps...

It might be worth noting that my WILDs are not very stable and would appear as not being very vivid (although I can see good detail when I focus on one object closely), I'm also not thinking very logical, and the dreams are short.

Oooh! I like Star Wars... but I definately never heared the lightsaber \"voooophm\" during one of my WILD sessions...

I've experienced what i think is probably the sound your talking about, only it happens at a quicker speed and at a very quick interval, right before i enter the dream. I find if I concentrate on it I can even make it last longer. However, it only comes at that specific time and when I hear it I know that I'll be LDing in a matter of seconds.

It was 17:45 in the afternoon when I felt a little sleepy, so I thought by myself "why not try a WILD nap right now?"

17:45 - starting to shut down PC and get the room to be very dark.

17:50 - lying down on my bed, relaxing.

18:00 - feeling vibrations, my heart pounding like crazy, seeing abstract hypnogogic images (some kind of 3D gradient horizon with bright colored moving spirals)

18:01 - My mum calling for dinner.

CRAP!!! :morecrying:

Oh well... better luck next time.

I've heard that sound before once or twice during the very few WILDs I've actually had. Usually I hear it very, very faintly after I open my dream eyes and begin fall back into a dream sleep.

Happened to me in the past when sleepy (I just discovered Lucid dreaming today). I'd be doing something in my head, in full control (mild-lucid) of my actions, but it just felt like 'thoughts' - as if I was just thinking about me doing it, but I could feel it happening in an enviroment. They were just clear thoughts I didn't know I was taking part in. For example, you could think about yourself going to a store and buying peanuts, but actually 'making those thoughts come alive' is what I experienced before.
After 15-20 seconds of it, I'd be like "Wow, I'm actually IN my thoughts!", and then they'd dissappear. I could think about them again, but it'd be very very hard to actually gain control again subconciously. Instead, I could oly merely imagine myself doing things instead of ACTUALLY doing them

Another comment. I've had several pre-WILDs over the past couple of weeks that never lead to a lucid dream.

Just as a recap, when I try to induce a WILD, I lie in bed relaxed until I can feel that my body is falling asleep, and then I try to keep a conscious mind until it feels like I can enter a dream. I enter a dream by opening my "dream eyes" which instantly brings me from darkness into a dream (could be the room where I'm sleeping or a completely different area). It's quite simple, and always takes only a matter of minutes to go from being awake to in a dream.

Due to my WILDs not being very vivid, I've been trying different techniques to enter a more vivid dream when opening my dream eyes lately, such as telling myself that when I open my eyes I will be in a very vivid and stable dream. I've tried focusing on my body before entering a dream as well. These things seem to cancel the likelihood of entering a dream, and I usually just wake up again or I drift off to normal sleep. It seems that if I don't try imagining to myself or focusing on anything, but instead just lie there trying to keep a conscious mind, I can slip into a lucid dream much easier.

I finally experienced vibrations last night! I woke up in the middle of the night, and as I fell back to sleep, I heard the sound of a squeaky door opening, then I felt wild vibrations (I see where it gets its name) all over. It lasted for a couple minutes, then I was imagining jumping from the top of a building to another, and I tried flying for the first time. After flying in all directions and realistically feeling each move, I flew at high speed straight up into the sky and then after it seemed like I reached the end of our atmosphere, I woke up.

During all this I could only see darkness, and just had "thoughts" of what was happening.

Good job at the vibrating, dearly! Did you experience any voooophms?

I can't really get myself to relax and WILD when i'm going to bed lately... then again, I've been working a lot of evening hours for the past few weeks. Oh well, there will always be weekends!
