      dreaming of grandparents

I have been into genealogy for about 12 years. 2 years ago was when this dream first began. It seems to slowly progress slightly every time I have it. I will point out that my grandfather died 20 years before I was born, and my father has been gone since 1980. My great grandfather has been gone since 1884!

The first time, I dreamed that I was standing in my yard and my grandfather was standing several feet away from me, talking to my father. My grandfather turns slowly to me and smiles, holding out his hand.

My father suddenly becomes very upset, and puts his hand on my grandfather's arm while looking at me. Dad starts telling me in a stern voice, "No! You've got to find it! It's not time yet! You HAVE to find it!"

In the first dream, I felt uneasy, anxious, slightly frightened. When I woke up, I was sitting straight up in bed, shaking very badly.

The second dream: I am standing in my front yard. At the border of the yard is a large field. It is the color of a grassy field in winter - blah, yellowish, browns. My grandfather stands by my side, smiling gently.

In the field my father stands talking to my great grandfather. My great grandfather suddenly turns to me and smiles, holding his hand out. My father reacts the EXACT same way in this dream, yelling no, you've got to find it! It has to be found! At the same time dad is saying this, my grandfather gently places his hand on my arm as if to hold me back from my great grandfather.

After this second dream, I had something occur during the day, while I was wide awake. I was sitting at my computer, when I was "transported??" back in time. I am standing at the top of a street. I know exactly where I am, even though I've never been there. It is the village my great grandfather grew up in back in Ireland.

There are a man and woman walking away from me a little further down the hill. They start to cross the street, and then stop and turn toward me. The lady is dressed in a typical peasant type of clothing of the 1800's. The man is dressed the same. I know that they are my great grandparents. They both smile and the man holds his hand out to me.

At this point, I come out of this. I am back at my computer.

About 3 months later, in fact last week, the third dream occurred. I see myself sleeping, and I am aware there are others in the room with me. I see defined outlines and features of the others, although the bodies are watery and clear. I know they are the same people - my grandfather, my great grandfather, and my dad.

My dad is upset. He seems to be arguing with my grandfathers. My grandfather stays near me at all times. My great grandfather seems to want to walk over to me, but my dad keeps stopping him. That was all that occurred in this dream. Once again, I came out of it shaking, and very frightened.

Since this 3rd dream, I have had a "feeling" that someone is with me all the time. I "feel" this "person" is always just behind me on my right side. I don't feel threatened by this, in fact I feel a sort of "comfort."

Any ideas what is going on here? Why do my ancestors keep holding out their hands as if to have me come to them? Why does my father seem so angry and what is the signifigance of him always stopping them?

      Help please?

Anyway, I am going to move this into the general discussion forum for you so you can get more people to respond to this. If you have any objection to that, just PM me and Ill move it back to the newbie forum.

      dreaming of grandparents

Thank you for the welcome, Barbizzle. And also thank you for moving this where it should be - I was unsure of where to post it.

One thing I guess I want to say about my dreams is that there are two distinct things that bother me the most about all of this .

#1 - What is the "IT" that my father keeps saying I have to find??
#2 - Why did my grandfather first hold his hand out and then it became my great grandfather?

I had never even seen a picture of my great grandfather when this started. I had no idea in the world what he could have looked like. And yet I KNEW this man was him! And when a relative was found, and she sent me pictures of this man, I knew instantly that a) this was the man in my dreams, and B) he was my great grandfather.

The holding out of their hands I read as them wanting me "to go with them." Of course this scares me, because they have all passed on.

As for the "IT" - this is very confusing to me. Dad used to tell us that his father didn't trust banks or people. They lived in an old log cabin high up in the mountains when dad was growing up. My grandfather would bury his money around the cabin in old tin cans and canning jars.

Needless to say, we have went to the old cabin many times with metal detectors and shovels, and we have scoured every inch of that property. Nothing was ever found.

I have uncovered most, if not all, of the "big family secrets" in my family history research, and I don't honestly feel the "IT" lies there.

Any ideas, any thoughts, would be appreciated. Thank you.
