I have VERY bad problems sleeping. I usually lie awake in bed for at least an hour, no matter how tired i am. I try to release everything from my mind, and that makes me calm, but no more tired. Usually, i just think about things until i can sleep. Are there any tecniques that could help me?
Well I don't know about techniques, but I do have a few pointers on getting to sleep.
- Try not to drink any soda or eat anything sugary remotely before bed.
- (Not insinuating anything) But having any kind of sex before bed can ruin your sleep. This is a killer for me :wink:
- Don't use the computer or watch TV for a half-hour before you go to bed.
- Eat foods like chocolate ice-cream before bed, these'll put you to sleep good.
Thanks for the suggestions, im usually on my computer soon before i sleep, so ill try getting off earlier. And for the chocolate ice cream, how does that help? I'll also watch what i eat, because i usually snack before i go to bed.
I don't know if you've tried any deep breathing exercises, but I think if you took deep breaths and only concentrated on breathing, the effort of keeping focused may disengage your brain to fall to sleep.
I don't know about ice cream, but I would think hot drinks like tea and hot cocoa may make you feel more relaxed, and therefore make your body feel more sleepy.
I'm not an expert on sleep (and I've had a few nights when I've laid awake for hours), but maybe this will help. Good Luck (and sweet dreams! :) )
I saw the thing on sleep on the news once. The name was something like "Can your favorite Ice-Creams help you to sleep at night?" Turns out they can. I don't remember the specifics, but yeah, I guess it helps.

I suggest getting a tape on guided meditation or on progressive muscle relaxation, where you are told to relax each muscle in the body in sequence. The thing about these tapes is that most people fall sleep listening to them! If it doesn't work for you, at least you will have received training that in turn will help you achieve more lucid dreams.
By the way, chocolate has caffeine so I would avoid it.
