A reminder to USE your dream journal

I had a lucid dream last night and decided to fall back to sleep before writing it down, nedless to say I forgot it. All I can rember was that I was flying around my house as a shotglass...

I have that so much. I am like "ahhh to tired, I am SURE I will remeber it in the morning, right?"

One time with HILD I said: I will LIKE to write down my dreams in the middle of the night. Well it worked. I wasn't tired to write down my dreams, but still could go back to bed.

Im pretty good about remembering things If I make sure I atleast think about them, I always just wait until morning lol

For example, in school I take notes only when the test isnt for a long time(in one class we only have 2 tests a semester so its a long time to remember information), I find if I just pay attention I remember it better, not distracted with trying to write it all down

I can usually remember the overall gist of my dream but I lose almost all of the detail that makes it real, if I don't write it down. Sometimes I lose it all together. Definately worth it to jot it down.

It is also funny to me to look back on those that I jot down in the middle of the night. I have some funny stuff in there that I totally forget about. Just this morning I was looking over one of the dreams that I wrote notes on from a few nights ago. Each note brought back the memory of the dream, but one just made me laugh. Scribbled in my journal "I WIPE MY ASS WITH CLUB CRACKERS!" Totally forgot that little scene *(I wonder why ). I was aparantly bragging about my personal collection of club crackers, boasting that I wipe my ass with them.... and throwing them at people passing by. Crazy, but funny to look back on.

I can say that the average human is not disciplined or motivated enough to get up to write down the dreams they have. I honestly very rarely write down every detail in my dreams, or nearly even a summary. Only of the dream really meant something to me. Otherwise, on a regular basis, I write bullet points of key points and details from the dream, and it's surprisingly efficient, and leaves me with a satisfied feeling afterwards, cuz if I want, the bullet points will trigger massive other branches of associated memories within the dream. It's like getting my foot in the door. In the meantime, I passively work on my LD skillz.

I have noticed that even though I think that I will remember the dream I just had... I still forget it. A new method I will try is writing down 1-5 key words about every dream in my cell phone (I keep it close to my bed every night). In the morning I then memorize the dream because of the key words. Do you think this could work? Because I have often realized that one little thing can bring an entire dream back.

I mean, writing takes energy and you have to be in a good position to write properly, but a cell phone is much easier. You can get comfortable and you'll write those 1-5 words in under 30 seconds... In the morning you can do all the writing properly in the journal... And you'll remember every dream because the cell phone reminds you!

I always write down my dreams in the morning (if I remember any), but I never have the motivation to write them down in the middle of the night if I wake up from one. I'm usually too sleepy or comfy to even think about moving. I always tell myself I'll remember them, but sometimes I forget. I wish I could make myself write them down in the middle of the night.

for the first couple months i wrote down EVERY dream in complete detail as soon as i woke up from it...as much as i could possibly remember. some nights it felt like i was writing in my DJ almost as much as i was sleeping...

it certainly worked wonders. i went from remembering very few dreams to at the very least 2 per night, and up to 7 or 8. however, lately i've just been writing down the good ones in depth, and every lucid. most of the boring ones i just go over in my mind as i fall back to sleep.

my average dream recall has dropped about 1 a night since i stopped writing down every dream (from 4 to 3), but i can live with that.

      Ditto.

I even say the dream to myself in detail and am like "How can a dream this cool and detailed be forgotten". I fall asleep and wake up.

Every time I remeber to use my dream journal it turns out to be a false awakening so I forget anyway.

      omg lol.

Last night I tried the cell phone thing. Well, in the middle of the night I woke up to my set alarm. Then I wrote the key words of the dream in my cell - at least I thought so. What really happened was, I fell asleep before actually writing anything, and then of course I dreamt of writing it down!

And then in the morning I wanted to check my cell, and I did. The thing was: It was a false awakening and there actually was the exact text I had written down in my dream! When I really woke up I checked my cell again and there was nothing... The funny thing is that without my false awakening I hadn't remembered the dream at all!

      Isn't that crazy?
