My scariest dream? Hell, I've only been remembering dreams at ALL for three weeks now! But I DID have one nightmare, which after having, I love immensely... It was rather short in terms of the actual time that elapsed in the dream, but was extremely vivid. I'm using it as creative inspiration for a short story I'm writing. The "name" I gave my nightmare is the same as the working title of my short story. So, here goes:
"The Maiden In the Mist"
I'm standing in a winding alley, wearing a thick, heavy brown leather trenchcoat, holding a lantern out in front of me. The soles of my shoes are worn, and through them I can feel the alley's cobbles, which remind me of the cobbles in the Old City in Edinburgh that I visited once.
The alley is shrowded in mist, and since it's only the first crack of dawn, everything is still very dark. Something up ahead of me is rustling, but I can't see it, even though I hold up the lantern. Then, a shape starts to form out of the mist... it is a woman.
She is slender, almost ludicrously slender, and garbed head to toe in smooth white silk. The silk hangs off her in strands, but it's not torn or anything... they're very clean-cut strands. It's like she's wearing a wedding dress. I can't see her face, as she wears some sort of veil... but as she gets closer, I see she's not wearing a veil at all. Her face is perfectly smooth, and utterly featureless.
She glides, rather than walks, up to me over the cobbles, the mist enshrouding us both. Now, the walls of the alley are no longer visible, and all I can see is me, her, and the grey mist.
But the scariest thing of all are her hands. Extending from the tips of her fingers, about a foot long, are metal claws that she holds at her side. When she stops in front of me, I remember being utterly terrified, and unable to move. She lifts a clawed hand to my chest. I stare into her face, and try to make out something, some gesture or expression, but she is totally featureless and smooth in her movements, like some sort of robot.
I start to feel her claws dig into my chest.
I wake up with a cold sweat.
I guess the dreams I remember that scared me the most happened when I was 6-8 years old. They were both inspired by episodes of TV shows that I watched.
The first was like the episode of "Lost in Space" where the Robot grows to large economy size, and Will and Dr. Smith have to go inside the Robot to fix what's wrong. When they get inside they discover that Robot has an "immune system" of sorts; roving laser cannons ready to blast any "infection". In the dream, I'm don't recall if I was myself, or one of the characters, but I remember running and hiding from those frackin' lasers! :holycrap:
The other I recall even less about, but it had to do with the lava-creature from the Star Trek episode (original series) where they apparently meet Abraham Lincoln and several other historical figures. That alien was creepy!
Ever since my first lucid at 8-9 years-old, I think my mind has decided that, lucid or not, my dreams can't hurt me -- so it doesn't allow me to get scared when I'm dreaming. Mind you, I've had a lot of dreams about being in situations that would be scare in real life. But for some reason, even if I'm not lucid, it doesn't really frighten me.
Strangely, about the closest I've come to being scared during a dream anytime in recent history was last night. I dreamt that I was driving down one of our local freeways, in the high-speed lane. Suddenly, I saw headlights coming at me in my lane. I couldn't change to the right, so I moved left into the HOV lane, and passed about four cars all in a row going the wrong way, but all in that same lane. Then I found myself going too fast approaching a curve, and I couldn't keep it on the road. The car went sailing through the air at which point I began to feel scared in the dream. But also at that point, the dream switched to 3rd person -- still a relatively new thing for me -- and I think that eliminated the fear (though I still didn't become lucid  ), because I certainly didn't wake up in a panic.
OFF-TOPIC: I also had my first LD in a while last night (early Fri. morning). Unfortunately I was too lazy to get up and write it down, so I don't recall much. But I do recall being with someone else, and I get the impression it was a DV member. I remember saying something like "You know we're both dreaming.", getting a positive response, and both of us going flying together.
Hrm... sorry, that went on longer than I intended. :bslap:
:morecrying:The latent memories!!
Ages ago I used to watch The Moomins every morning at 6:00, except that groke was the scariest thing ever to a young boy like I was....:morecrying: And the spooky music! It haunted me for ages because when I was in my bed I was opposite an open door which was pitch black inside, and I would have sworn I could see eyes.....
I don't expect I'd find it scary now, and I always felt stupid for being scared of something which appeared in the Moomins, but at least there was someone else who shared my pain.
*wonders if he could use the groke to have recurring nightmares as a DSign*
My scariest dream was when I died.
I was hiding behind three metal crates, stacked in a pyramid. I was couldn't move. When I peeked above the crates, I saw a throwing knife zooming towards me. The next thing I know, the knife is rammed into my heart. Pain explodes inside of me, and blood is everywhere. I feel slightly dizzy, and then there is a flash of white light.
I am back behind the crates. The knife is gone, the pain is gone. The blood on my chest is gone, but I could still smell blood. I looked from behind the crate again, and a bloody knife covered in my own blood came and hit me in the same place. This time, along with the pain, I couldn't breathe. Then there was a flash of white light, and I was back behind the crate.
This happened 7 times, and I was terrified.
Then the person who killed me 7 times asked if we wanted to be friends.
When I woke up, I was sweating and I had some breathing difficulty.
The scariest dreams i have usually have to do with a non-human DC's eyes. But there was this one dream that was the most horrifying i'll probably ever have. I was climbing out of this foxhole or something on this ladder and i was with two other DCs. One was a regular person and the other was a tree character. Like a walking tree or something. He got to the top first and i was on the bottom of the ladder when he looked down at me and when we made eye contact i was FEAR STRICKEN. i don't know why but everytime i would look in his eyes i was filled with the most horrible fear i've ever felt. eventually i'm laying on the ground screaming in pure terror and the two guys are at the top wondering what the hell is wrong with me. wierd. i've only been scared that much, one other time when lightning struck by my house in the middle of the night with no warning.
I've had a few scary ones, but i'll post 2 more memorable ones. The first is a recurring dream from my childhood, the other is more recent, but incredibly disturbing.
When i was a lot younger (i'm 20 now) i used to have a recurring nightmare where i would be in various places, but each and every time i was with my family. Then out of nowhere this sort of jack in the box music would start playing. You know, real movie material stuff :-P and my parents would both start frantically trying to protect me from something. They would rush to me and cover my eyes and tell me everything was fine. I remember one time in particular we were outside and the clouds were building and getting filling everything with gloom as this music was playing. And then i would wake up. But the horror of not being able to really see what was going on, the music, and my parents' reaction was terrifying! I only remember it happening 3 or 4 times, and in each dream after the first, once the music started, i would think "oh not again!" but i'm not sure if i knew i was actually dreaming then or not.
One that happened last year some time involved me watching some sicko on a television set or something. I would advise those who are sensitive to gorey images/scenes to stop reading at this point. He was cutting up different people and sort of creating some kind of sick sculptures from their body parts. Like he would take somebody's arm and stuff it down somebody else's neck. I was glad to wake up from that one! Although i didn't feel to good.
creepy.repitition.I dont think i ever had a dream repeatQuote:

I had a dream once where from the start I knew I was dying slowly. At the end of the dream I felt my heart stop beating, I felt the blood in my veins stop flowing. That is the most terifying and painful thing I have ever done in a dream. I have died in dreams before but never like that.
ive had this dream where i walk in my room and turn on my TV. There is this bright red light on it and i realise that i closed the door by accident on the way in. For some reason i know that you should NEVER shut the door when the TV is on! so i just sit down holding my legs close to me and wait. The room gets hotter and hotter. the red light starts to get brighter and brighter filling the room, my heart beats realy fast, my body gets hot and i just wait to die.
Its was realy wierd and scary. it lasted only i few seconds. The next day i learned about infrared in science so i think that was what the red light was supposed to be!
I very rarely get nightmares, but have had a few in my life worth mentioning. Interestingly I have what some people would consider to be terrifying dreams but the feelings associated with them aren't terror or fear. Instead they are more interesting and exciting than anything else.
When I was very young (5-6) I was very ill. It must have been the illness partly, because I'm not sure if it was a dream or hallucination but I thought some people had put my brain in a machine and were doing something to it. I was screaming in my bed for a few hours about that one.
At the age of about 16-17 I had this extremely brief nightmare or night terror. I couldn't tell which. All I remember is that below my window in the yard there was someone looking up at my room, staring. I get extremely strong emotions attached to my dreams and in this one there was an very, very strong sense of evil radiating from this figure. I woke up wanting to scream, sweating, but I couldn't move. I stayed like that for the next 40ish minutes, not even moving my head.
At about the same age (perhaps a little later, say 18) I had another freaky dream. This was more visual. The only part I really remember was me walking down this room. It had thousands upon thousands of babies in little round pods, filled with red viscous fluid, pipes trailing out. Similar to the 'farms' in the Matrix. In the background a song by Radiohead, "Street Spirit, fade away" was playing, not so much being played by any stereo as being just an overlay to the dream. Again another dream that caused me to wake up unable to move.
Those are the only nightmares I've had. I'm now 25 and have had perhaps one other that I just can't remember. I'm glad though because when I do have them, they are bloody awful.
As I've said before I do have dreams that other people might find disturbing, but unless I get a certain set of emotions with the dream then it just doesn't feel scary to me.
For example, I've encountered that sense of evil that I mentioned earlier, on many occassions. Its like an almost palpable mist that hangs over certain objects. There is one occuring dream I've had on a couple of occassions with a book in a hidden library in a house. The book seems to hum with this evil, and is poisoning the house and land around it. I think it is the mythical 'book of the dead' as described by HP Lovecraft. It's bound in skin, and I'm searching through the house to try and find it. However although the sense of evil is there - and very strong - it just doesn't feel like nightmare.
Which has just reminded me of something extremely amusing! I had a dream recently with this sense of evil in it. I think it was turning into a nightmare until I became aware I was dreaming and turned lucid.
Essentially I was in a house and there was a door. Every time I tried to open it got about a foot open and then was snatched away from me and slammed shut. In the dream I knew that there was nothing on the other side of the door, but I could sense the aura of evil eminating from it. So every time I tried to open the door it was snatched back. Then I suddenly realized "hey, this is a dream. Let's have some fun with this". I could still sense the presence and so started to tease it, tugging the door and not letting it shut. It greatly amused me to think I had become lucid on the edge of a nightmare and was now for all intents and purposes playing a childish game of tug the door with it.
Has anyone else become lucid in nightmares?
I had a really scary dream once. This gray alien(the kind of alien with small body, egg-like head) wearing a suit was following me all through town. Just the sight of its face frightened to hell out of me. It finnally caught up to me to kill me, but then i woke up.
It wasn't disgusting or anything, iv'e had dreams where i would be swimming in a tub of worms, and it still seemed fun..
But that alien...
My most scariest dream was remarkably similar to that. It was just an arrangement of 9 white fuzzy squares and triangles in a 3 x 3 arrangement against a black background and they were slowly and individually rotating. It happened twice when I was about 4.Quote:

My most scary recent dream occured after a mushroom trip. I fell asleep and dreamed that I was still tripping, but I was tripping really hard, so I didn't know what was happening and I thought all my housemates were trying to screw with me, picking me up and carrying me across the room. Eventually everything went dark and I was in my bed and my housemates had completely surrounded my bed with boxes.
I had a dream a couple of years ago where me and my parents were being chased around a caravan park by a murderer, and i was trying desperately to protect my parents. I eventually stabbed the murderer in the head, and it was horrible.
Another dream when i was about 9 or 10 stuck with me because the location was so creepy. It was a town on the edge of a cliff, in the middle of a big storm, and there was this massive zombie ghost dressed in police uniform jumping around. That doesnt really sound very scary, but it was.
I can't believe someone doesn't know The Moomins. It's the greatest cartoon ever! Groke is the scary monster who appears very seldom. I don't think it's very scary if you don't know the show. Just watch the 6th episode of the moomins (Groke appears for the first time there) and you'll be freaked out for life... I can't believe they show this to kids. But, as I said: Great show!
This was a non-lucid.
I was walking down a dark street alone ( I was about 8) and all of a sudden a GIANT crab appeared behind me. I started running down the street as fast as I could but the crab would just scuttle towards extremely fast. I remember it would hit cars with it's enormous claw and they were fly away like nothing. When I woke up, I sat up and screamed.
I know this dream sounds weird, I laugh at it now, but It was SCARY to me as a kindergartener. Afterwards I was praying to god to please never give me a dream like this again. (This is when I still believed that praying to God can actually help.)
So this girl on my bus stole my birthday present, so I took it back. Then the next day in the dream, I woke up and dwent downstairs into the kitchen where my dad had been replaced by this weird tall blond guy in an apron making a sooflay (or however it's spelled). (my dad doesn't usually cook, isn't very tall, and while his hair is pretty gray now, I was black at the time) Then out of the oven come a genie saying that as punishment for taking the present back he will send 6 tornadoes from china (wtf, I live in massachusetts) to destroy my house at nine o'clock sharp. he then went on the ask my "dad" if he wanted anything on top, he responded something along the lines of, "Umm...how about some strawberries please." It was 8:58 when this happened. I ran outside to where my mom and sister were already in the car (I think to a doctor appointment), adn bassiccally told them to hurry up or we'll be killed. Then clock turned to nine and I woke up really scared and went to my parents bedroom where I slept the rest of the night.
Mine was one I had when I was a mere 7 year old...
It was a dark cold and stormy night, and being so young I was in the brink of tears because I was home alone.
I heard a knock at the door and I was elated! My mommy was home with my brother! I can't explain how relieved I was. I went over to the door, opened it to find...
My mom and brother were dead! They were skeletons of themselves!
Quite an experience for a 7 year old. ;)
I had a nightmare that george bush became president back in 2000.
i had a dream that i got executed and i really felt like i died...even after i woke up i was all tingly and stuff...
it stil scares me and everytime i talk about it i get chills :?
I've had two that I still remember.
I was about 6, and I had a dream that our house sunk underwater and everyone was eaten by sharks. It was so vivid...and they saved me for last...
The other one was a few months ago. Let me say I'm afraid of heights in real life. Somehow I was falling - except much scarier. I went to pull my ripcord of the parachute, and it wouldn't go. I was all alone, and I watched the ground come closer and closer until - I woke up sweating, on my back with my arms and legs spread out like a flying squirrel. :holycrap:
I know they don't sound that scary, but things scare me easily. :sweat1:
i had this dream last night...i am petrified***** of bee's and i dont remember much about the dream except for a huge bee got stuck in my hair and i woke up and still heard it buzzing around..freaked me the fuck out
Wow.freaky dreams ppl
