      hypnagogic visions- fat and skinny

During that state between awake and sleeping, I used to have weird visions of objects growing really huge and fat, then shrinking really tiny or skinny, til I can barely see it. now I mostly just have these when I'm sick.
I've read that in the hypnagogic stage stage your mind is totally free and that creative people often can find inspiration there. any wild ideas or visions you've gotten from this state? personally I have a hard time grasping anything tangible. I either fall asleep and miss it, or wake up but can't really remember anything for sure, other than the fat/skinny thing.

That's so weird, because that's exactly how I experience it as well - only I didn't know how to describe it. Thanks!

In one of the many self experiments i conducted, i experemented with half sleed and micro-sleep.

You are in half sleep, the best way to have and obe. your mind gets jumpy trying to either sleep or stay awake.

i frequently have micro-sleeps. i think of something and in my thoughts, then something happens. Say i die or something. Anyway, When this happenes, i kinda jump and wake up at the same time, realising that it has only been a few seconds.

Burns: yeah, I've talked to others (including my mom) who have the same kind of visions.
It's definitely a weird state of mind.

I get this, but it is more like things "breathing." I rely on it when trying to WILD... if I start slipping, that breathing thing reminds me to get a grip again.

Now that you mention it, I have a similar view or HI. Although sometimes for me the objects get smaller, sometimes they get larger, and sometimes they just move through my field of vision. Has anyone ever seen hypnogogic imagery in a dark room with the eyes open? I think I have on a few occasions but I'm always almost asleep by then.

Perhaps off topic, but you just reminded me of someting. I used to do this as a kid... not sure if it is even safe, but I seem to have suffered no harm from it, and my eye doctor uses a similar thing when photographing my retinas:

Get in a completely dark room with a flash gun of any variety. Give yourself a few minutes to adjust to the dark. With eyes wide open, fire the flash.

You will instantly get a negative image of the room... that's to be expected. The surprising thing, though, is it will resolve to a full color 3d positive image which will persist for a few moments - and of course follow you if you turn your head or look away.

I mention this because hypnogogic imagery that tells me I can "step in" is exactly like this for me...
