Failed RC
I have made a regular habit of RCing and have found it has worked in the first (and only) 2 lucids I have had so far. Whenever I perform an RC, I do the following things:
- Finger through palm of hand technique (the main check)
- I also read some text and try to make my watch go backwards
- If i'm not dreaming then I will imagine something I could be doing if it WAS a lucid dream
- I also focus on whats around me to heighten my senses (it says this in one of the tutorials)
I do this about 10 or more times a day. But last night when I was having a regular dream, I performed the same reality check and found it positive. But I didn't realise this until I'd woken up!
I know this usually happens when you make a habit of not thinking while RCing, but I try to take in as much as possible, and its annoying when you realise the missed opportunity :?
I was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts/experience with this, and what I could possibly do to ensure it doesnt happen again.

Personally, I don't remember to do random reality checks, and have a hard time actually trying to prove I'm awake and not dreaming. I like to link reality checks with some of my more common dreamsigns.
I wrote about it in this thread. (I didn't feel like typing it over again).
Remember, the key to learning is to find a way that works for you. If doing random RC's doesn't work, try something else. Good luck! :)

Thanks for the advice
Although I can't seem to find any special dreamsigns, they all seem to be just random so RC is about the only method I can think of.
It usually works, I might have just let it pass me by.

I have found that RC's don't always work for me. I typically know that I am dreaming. My RC's typically fail since I tend to be grounded in reality quite a bit. So when that happens, I try not to bother with an RC.
