I read somewhere that people who get under 8 hours of sleep are negativly affected through out the day beacause of it. I dont know if anymore then that would be benificial, its an interesting thought though.

Mosta the time, your body knows exactly how much sleep you need, if you try :3

In what way are people affected exactly? I tend to stay up very late, often until 2am most nights, and then I have to wake up at 7 for school the next morning.

Is it possible this is preventing my LDs too?

Yes. Very possible, if not likely. IF at all possible, try to regularise your sleep schedule: go to bed at the same or similar time each night, and wake up at the same or similar time each morning.

As for eight hours of sleep? I'm not SO sure about that. Anything between 7 and 8 is generally considered "enough". More than eight hours of sleep ISN'T beneficial if you get it on a regular basis...

I'm sure this will have negative affects on LDing, not completely preventing them, but deffinetly not helping.

Try going to bed earlier, I get up for school at 7. but I go to bed at around 10:30, unless it's a weekend. I tend to lie awake for a while though, just relaxing and letting my thoughts wander, I enjoy that more than I enjoy anything I could be doing out of bed.

Chances are if you're tired, you won't remember an LD even if you have one! Especially ones that occur way before dawn.
