Is It Evolutionarily Advantageous to Lucid Dream, or Not?

I've realized something in my Lucid Dreams of late, and that is this: My Dream Characters will do everything in their power to keep me from gaining lucidity. They routinely lie, and try and convince me of our reality.

Why? Why does your own mind want to keep you in the dark, and out of lucidity? Why do most people never lucid dream? I know this is a skill that almost anyone can work on, but why do we need to work on it at all? You don't need to work on breathing or eating, running or jumping. These things come instinctively. Why are our dreams different?

Is it possible that Lucid Dreaming is detrimental to our mental health, or stability? Does our mind need unconcious moments to work through problems and to process information uninterrupted?

Does anyone have any insight here? I've been thinking about it quite a lot lately.

i don't think it does.

even when one becomes lucid in a dream, normally the greater bulk of hte dream is determined by the subconscious (i would even argue always).

the subconscious is not the conscious, and it seemingly is happy with that arrangment :wink: it is only the conscious which attempts to change this. in terms of lucid dreaming, it manages to sneak into a play that its subconscious creates every night regardless of whether it has an audience or not.

the purpose of the play is not to make it easy to sneak into. or hard to sneak into....its purpose is simply to create a play. if conscious mind wishes to view, it must find its own way.



even in waking life, attempts to integrate aspects of one's subconscious into the conscious self are few and far between in most people.

but a yogi must spend years perfecting specific breathing techniques, a vegan must research and take care in eating as healthfully as they think possible, a runner must train for years to run a marathon....etc.

in the same way every healthy person dreams, whether they remember it or not. but to refine this universal ability into a skill takes time and effort.

you asked about whether it is evolutionarily advantageous to lucid dream. well, i would say no.

the majority of humanity can eat, drink, fuck, and generally manage to stay alive until they pop out a few kids.

though i do think lucid dreaming would be good for culture...

I've always thought of LDing as finding a loophole in your mind. Finding a way around the mental barriers and interacting with your subconscious. I don’t know if it’s natural, I’ve never done it, but it’s a common belief that dreams occur because your mind is making sense of the flood of information gathered through the day. Maybe by waking your conscious mind during sleep you’re disrupting that process. Has any experienced LDers had a LD for many nights in a row? Did it take its toll on you, or were you well rested and fine?

it would be bad to be lucid back when you had to hunt for food and water.

the reason being: If I had the choice to a) go to sleep and enter a world where I could have all the cooked wild buffalo I wanted just by thinking it or B) get out of the cave and enter a cold harsh environment where I had to spend hours upon hours hunting down a buffalo that tasted worse than the one i could have in the LD I think i would go with the dream.

the same more-so goes for sex.

If we had lucid dreams back then we wouldn't be around anymore :)

This is wrong. You have never seen a fatass fall over, attempting to jump. :o

I don't think it's just jumping, but jumping high (something i cant do) we can all jump of course, but one must practise to jump. I believe that you must have dreams without lucidity, I've had dreams that had shown me a piece in time, and have it happen a few days later, sometimes maybe even a year later, but it would be just 1 moment, i don't know why this happens. Your mind does need uncoincious sleep to sort of "restart" and clean out unwanted memories and things. Like cleaning out the computer, daily. Thats what i think. My 2 cents.
