Focus On What You See

Well first off I have ADD (Attention Defacit Disorder) which would be best be described as:'Our heads are filled with highways and flyovers on which throughts drive. MY head is filled with the same highways only a 1000000 thoughts cross my mind simultaniously most of the time. Pretty unnerving and it makes it hard to focus on an activity or single tought. Now I'm not Seriously Impaired by it, but it DOES sometimes drive me nuts and make me a terrible scatterbrain and chaotic in mind. I also suffer from Insomnia the last couple of months.NUFF

Okay I was laying in my mother's bed next to her ( I always sleep there when I feel nervous or plagued by something..Yeah I'm 20 but there's still no such safety as the ''mother's safety-feeling'' :content: ) and since she always seemed to PLUMMIT into deep sleep withing like 10 minutes I asked her: How do you do that? How do you make your head empty of thoughts?

She was hella tired herself and just said: '' Just focus on what you see and think of nothing.'' Now I did what she told me to and experienced an intense REST in mind ( Which I hadn't had for a LONG long time ) and the HI became more vivid than ever.
By Focussing on my Field of Sight ONLY I was much more able to ignore the always present random thoughts in my head. I was asleep within about 30 minutes. or less while it usually takes me more than an hour.

So Fellow Insomniacs, ADD-ers and Lucid Dreamers: This may be a perfect relaxation/sleep aid/meditation-technique, and also a good one to incorporate into your own compromised WILD-method.
It sounds so simple'' Just focus and take note of what you see'' but if you have sleeping problems, or your ADDplagued mind can't get no rest you might wanna try this.

Well here is some age old advice that will help you in two ways: Reading very erudite non-fiction -- History, anthropology, metaphysics, whatever, just as long as it seems useful for your personal education and cultural standing. The advantages are twofold -- you will learn and become a fuller and better person, and you will be bored to sleep a heck of a lot sooner then by staring up at the ceiling.

Education and Culture are interesting in an intellectual way, but if one has had a full day, then purely intellectual material will simply not be emotionally compelling enough to keep the fatigue and weariness from rising up and taking one into a peaceful sleep.

Very true Leo, I've been reading historical novels recently, and they drop me off to sleep in record time. But, I'm not sure of the details but I think ADD could stop this from working by preventing him from focusing well on what he's reading, so whatever works for you ska, go with it.

I have always been reading before sleep to try and get my eyes and mind tired. In the day I'm always learning and learning. My mind is hungry so I feed it alot :wink: It also tires the mind after having been active. That's why I actually NEVER watch TV: It is Mind Numbing and makes one's Mind lazy.
It's only now I am having some more success with reading to become sleepy maybe because only now my Insomnia is Decreasing (Thank God it is!)
I'm currently reading ''I never promised you a rosegarden'' What a great book to take your mind adrift and get you readty for sleep. But the Human Psyche and the surrounding paradoxes and illnesses have always intregued me so it makes this book even better to really let my mind drift off on it.

But about the ''Focus on what you see'' idea: I mean focussing on what you see behind your CLOSED eyelids. I found this an excellent way to calm and clear my Mind when it isn't at ease.

PS: Leo, we don't seem to be the best Friends Politically :content: , but that doesn't mean we have any problem with eachother outside of that subject right? For the best of the forum...would be nice to maintain a Friendly Atmosphere on these boards. But I figured that won't be a problem right? :wink:
