I guess to try to get a response to a well thought out response to a post is moot.
Rather you have to be an ass and be offensive and turn the discussion into an argument with some asinine statement.
Then you get results.

Now now. What brought on that bout of cynicism?
With all do respect LEO, quite frankly ....you.
Because I am interested in many of the topics that you are, I have tried to engage in philosophical debate in many of them, as do you.
The difference lies in the little innuendos and such. More over the demeaning attitude you often reply with to a statement you find to your offense.
Then comes the subtle excerpts often attached to your responses which ignites a fire under someones ass.
example out of many.
-"You should work for a speech writer for a Republican.
- Oh great... we have another Materialist.
- Sentiments about the Western culture, politics, religious belief. Most of which really do not pertain to the topic in its context. To you everything does.
But the end result is the same. I reply with a direct account of what I feel about the TOPIC and so goes you and pisses someone off and the topic is mislead down your path of destruction. :|
Actually, Leo, I'd like to pick your brain a little, if you don't mind.
What is it that makes you, "you?" And please don't answer with some witty little remark to imply that my question is to be taken literally. You'd completely play into my expectation and, as fun as it would be for me to capitalize on that, I'm trying to keep this on the level.
What I mean is; for a guy that has so much to offer, intellectually, and such an interesting point of view on such a broad range of subjects, why do you insist on ruining whatever respectful light many more people may see you in, simply for the chance to sling out childish insults and basically shit on people you disagree with?
Does empathy mean nothing to you? Do you feel that you're so well versed in life in general that any other perspective on it is, at default, inferior to your own? Have you no peace with the fact that other people weren't brought up in your shadow and often have different views of the world than you do? Your implied education is rivalled feriously by your monumental ignorance and you have me, a guy who doesn't like to go around launching offensive attacks at people, wondering "Why?"
Seriously, what is it? Do you feel threatened by the thought of people that may see things differently? Do you feel that there are stages in everyones' lives where they must be passed a certain train of thought, (namely one that you disagree with) and a little closer to your level, to be spared these completely over-dramatized bloviations that directly (however shrouded) work to imply that you are better, smarter, more pure, wiser or just plain worth more than they are?
Childhood competitiveness that just never went away, disillusioning the rest of us, however involuntarily on your part, of the oh-so-spiritual nature you seem to convey? What the hell is it, man?
And of course you may reply to this as it was some sort of personal attack. Perception is reality, no? But I might as well let you know that I'm simply asking all these questions because I have a genuine curiosity, not to throw coded insults at you, so take it as you will...But for the love of God, at least help me understand. :|
Wow, I am really quite impressed by the intellect of that line of questions. No wonder i was only a C+ student in second year psychology there were people like you destroying the bell curve.
In case Leo doesn't answer i will give you my 'two bits' on people like that. I believe that people look at way to many possiblilties when trying to understand others. So here it is 'Pride and unconsicous envy". The envy is unconcious because the pride is to great for him to believe he is actually envious of anyone.
Hey, thanks a lot, man. :cooler:
I guess my actually holding out a little hope for a reply from him shows I've still got a lot to understand about people like that.
Of course the whole "pride and envy" thing makes a lot of sense, though. Maybe I was just naive to give him the benefit of doubt, though; thinking that, just maybe, he could act his age and present me with at least some sort of honorable answer.
Huh. Oh well. Live and learn, I guess.
