Doing bad things - an outlet or a sin?

For an ExampleYou are happily married although you have fantacies from time to time about other people. Would it be helpful to fulfill those fantacies in a dream to offset the desire in waking life?
Some would argue - well your not happily married. I'm not so sure about that. I think it is healthy to have fantacies if you know where to draw the line.
Thats just an example. (punching out your boss - blowing up your car etc.)

its an outlet definetly.......to draw the line there is sayin if i think in my head of myself gettin with some awsome chik on the street then im a sinner.....its boxing up the situatiopn with too many rules and obligations...id say the best way to go about it is as an experience..to taste and try new things...making it too political will surely end it

with the fact that some dreams and ld's are just ur head and its imaginative powers.....it isnt harming anyone

but then again everyone is entitled to their opinion..so i will respect what ppl's have to say, but in my opinion if u get an ld....have a blast cos u wernt given that just to act normal and sane

Taking a psychological view on this, I believe that whilst sleeping, your subcosious is in control. The subconscious may represent your ego in reality, while your conscious being your superego. In reality our ego has urges to do things, even if we know its naughty yet, our superego will tell us not to do it because it is morally wrong. Then the same rules should apply whilst dreaming, these desires are natural and if remembered, may be used to identify that urge. It is often the mystery that makes us curious, experiencing these scenarios is a harmless environment can help relieve the mysterious temptation, so long as you know where to draw the line.

If you think its cheating, dont do it. If you're wondering if its ok to have sex with dreamcharacter think of it in this way: They're constructs of your mind. Its perfectly ok to act out a fantasy. If the setting is that you meet a nice girl, go out on a date, and have sex with her, then its all good. But if you are lucid and decide to summon some hot chick, then have sex with her without you wanting that the girl doesnt want sex, then its not good. Just think about what fantasies are wrong and which are good. If you think cheating is wrong, dont do it.

I believe this is the entire basis of dreams. Dreams to me are for our entertainment. We were not supposed to be entertained by what the television is airing at a particular time. We have our dreams to give us that Mystery, Action, Drama, and Thriller. The best part about it, is that you are the main character. These are visions of the mind, and desires that stimulates your subconscious. Even if you mean no harm. Your control over the situation is tiny at the least. Your dream is your outlet. Whatever you are FULLY aware of in the waking world is on you.

I voted neither, but here are my thoughts:

If you are in a normal dream, you are not accountable for your actions, but as soon as you become lucid, then you become accountable.

Your concious mind is working now, including the part that knows right from wrong. While it is true that there will be no consequences in the waking world for your actions, your concience will know.

Also, if your religion teaches against such actions, then I believe you will be held accountable.

Example:
"Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart" (Matt. 5:28 )


So, if you do have relations in your dreams, have you committed adultary in your heart?

I'm not condemming anyone. This is the ethos by which I live. I follow the same rules in my Lucid life as I do in my waking life.

It is up to each and everyone of you to decide for yourself how you will conduct yourself in you Lucid life. Do not let me, or anyone else tell you what it is you should do.

Just listen to and follow your heart. It is usually right!

For the most part I agree that there should be a limit to what you allow yourself to "play around" with in a lucid dream. But then again, things like stealing a sports car and going for a wicked joy ride or pounding the shit out of someone are both things that I wouldn't mind trying but would probably (wink: ) never do in real life.

I belive in doing whatever suits the situation. If I feel treatened by dream character, I will not hesitate to kill him. At the same time I'll not assault innocent bystanders.

define bad. Like Seeker said, probably depends on your belief system. I said neither, cause what is bad anyways, it depends on yourself.

for instance, if you had a LD you were Anakin Skywalker, and you re-enacted the scene of slaughter the entire Sand-people tribe, and laughed to yourself with joyful glee, I would say you need to contact a psychologist or join up with the dark side :P

to be honest though, the normal rules we follow in "reality" don't really apply in the dream world, consequently if you know you are dreaming, you do whatever you feel ok with doing. but you still make your own choices, so why do stuff you think is "wrong" to yourself? I doubt people do that when they lucid dream.

Anyone have regrets over doing something in a lucid dream?

i choose neither. i consider some of the stuff i do in dreams to be bad... like smiting people... that's bad but i don't have some pent up rage that can only be released through dreams. i smite people to keep my mind active so i don't loose lucidity. it's like flying, only you're playing the grim reaper... :shock:

just so you don't think i'm too f*cked up, sometimes i'll reanimate people. :D

in an LD... ask yourself who would it affect if it were taking place in the waking world. In a case that involves sex with someone other than a committed partner... you would be hurting that loved one in the waking world. If it were stealing a car... well it would hurt you in the waking world if you were cought. Well since it is a dream, steal the car! But if you wake up and feel guilty for boinking someone in a dream... well that wasn't a really good idea! So i think... as Seeker said... follow your heart!

I belive the purpose for which you committed the act in your dream is the most important. The moment you are lucid, you are, in most cases, able to determine right and wrong as you would when you are wake. So if you cheat on your wife for the sake of cheating on her, that is wrong. But if your engage in immoral (actions you consider immoral when you are awake) for the pure reason of experiencing it, or just to have fun, without bad intentions, i believe its ok. and could be purely considered an outlet

:o WOW A lot of good takes on this one. I think most of us (or at least I hope) know right from wrong. But the differance seems to lye in whether or not you believe it is an Humanistic outlet or a concious sin.

well i still believe its an outlet, as for quoting bible references to support some ideas or concepts in an ld as being a sin i think thats rubbish in its own right...............take a look at this..........the bible isnt much more than a political tool nowdays....much of its verses in as much moral right they may contain are misinterpreted and stained by history anyway...if u beleive its justified to quote these verses supposedly written by disiples whos heavenly father decided to drown the earth to cleanse us while killing thousands then thats ur right and morally up to u to decide....im christian but do not bring religion into this..........because all religions have faults and by no means will they determine right from wrong in this subject

now as for sex and how willfully doing it with dream charecters then using this to critisize others is contradicting ur own beliefs..........how is it different from going on a rampage or fighting someone.........justify the moral outcomes of ur actions in an ld by the comparison of ur own life and the immoral things u commit every day........

all in all what im trying to say is that dreaming an ld, obe is every persons right to use and accept whichever way they choose to......nobody has the right to tell someone esle what is immoral and right.........i know my brain and soul will always know the right thing to do thats why i know if i was shagging a dream chik...i know im really shagging myself...cos thats whats making it and its in my head.......

It's a weighted question. It assumes that the viewer believes in "bad" things. In fact, to say you're doing something bad is to say you're sinning.

Myself, I view the people in my dreams as mere objects. Constructs of the mind. In the dream, there is no difference between blowing up a chair and blowing up a random person.

Now, if you actually summon a real person you know and convince them that they're dreaming, thus making them LD with you, that's a different story. I wouldn't, say, have sex with them against their will - since they'd actually be experiencing it.

Two LD'ers in one dream. Confusion.

LD1: I shall make a mountain!
LD2: I shall blow LD1 up!
LD1 is blown up.
LD1: So...now what happens?

In place of LD1, I would have respawned and started civil war :)
